lf001. Opening shot; the titles say 'Portsmouth, 1940'. Is this a real location? The sea sparkles convincingly. The building has some similarities to Southsea Pier, but overall is distinctly different.
lf002. The camera pans right, following the car.
lf003. Rick (Michael Denison) arrives at Mona's house after learning that he's been posted to Titchfield. Is this a real location? It looks a lot like a set.
lf004. Rick drives through Titchfield on the way to the air base.
lf004n. East Street, Titchfield in Hampshire looking towards the High Street. (Modern Photo Added: 06-05-2014)
lf005. He arrives at the air base. Unknown location.
lf006. Rick and Mona park the car prior to walking over the downs. Unknown location.
lf007. They come down into Chalton village...
lf007n. Manor Farm and the church. Chalton village today, hardly changed at all. (Modern Photo Added: 06-05-2014)
lf008. ...to the Red Lion.
lf008n. A tarmac road now, and no benches outside, but the pub looks exactly the same sixty-five years on. Out of shot, though, it's been extended to the side and the rear. (Modern Photo Added: 06-05-2014)
lf009. This looks as though it could well have been shot inside the Red Lion. but the interior layout has been altered, and the bar staff and I couldn't match it up. I may need to go there again...
lf010. Wing Commander Hewitt (Maurice Denham) and Captain Burnaby (Dennis O'Dea) at the airfield. A discussion on an aviation forum from a couple of years back (http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?79922-Landfall-Filming-Locations) suggests that this is the airfield at Lee-on-Solent. The same thread contains a number of aircraft-related screen grabs from the film.
