Neil Rigby provides a series of captures that take in Mick Travis's journey from London after his promotion. This view is from Castleton Rigg overlooking Danby Dale in Yorkshire.

Neil advises that the road is unnamed with the nearest post code being YO21 2NH.

Starting on a remote, ruined shed, a pan right begins.

The journey to the north east continues before a red sports car overtakes Mick and crashes into a delivery van in thick fog. Neil locates this as the A59 Kex Gill Road, also known as Blubberhouses, near to North Moor Road between Harrogate and Skipton in Yorkshire.

Turning off the road, Mick drives onto the hotel forecourt.

The car is parked up at the Sutherland House Hotel.

After planning his route and practicing his sales patter, Travis heads to his first call. Kathy B advises that this is 'The Rows' in Poolsbrook in North East Derbyshire, about 6km north-east of Chesterfield, with the Miners Welfare Club in the distance.

Arriving outside the village shop, Michael Arnold "Mick" Travis (Malcolm McDowell) enters to make a sale. Kathy recognises this as what were known as the 'top shops' in Poolsbrook, Derbyshire.

Travis drives onward to sell more coffee. Looks like a Teesside Municipal Transport bus ahead and this is in the South Bank area with the Clay Lane Steel Works in the right distance. Neil Rigby identifies this as Middlesborough Road, TS6 6EX and with so many changes it is easiest to pick out a building that does remain. On Salisbury Terrace a small red brick building with two yellow brick courses that is trying to hide behind the lamp post center of the screen capture. (RL)

On another day, Travis drives through Poolsbrook, Derbyshire. The bus was route 7, operated by Chesterfield Corporation and this is Staveley Road. Information from Kathy B.

Mick Travis delivers Imperial Coffee to a corner shop. Possibly in South Bank, Teesside. After many years Neil has been able to provide us with this location as Blackhills Road, Horden, Peterlee SR84 4DW, next right he says to the long gone Horden Colliery. (RL)

And on to the next call. Neil Rigby has located this as Russell Street looking towards St. John's Church on the junction with Marton Road and North Ormsby Road. The whole area, save the church, has been redeveloped. (RL)

Sell, sell, sell - Travis drives from shop to shop. Following on from the previous capture, Neil tells us that Travis here has turned into what was Ash Street, Middlesborough. (RL)

Travis drives over a level crossing on the way to the fictional Cochranes Steel & Iron Works.

Travis enters Cochranes Steel & Iron Works. The gas holder in the background could be the same one seen in earlier captures. http://www.fansonline.net suggests that this may be the Clay Lane entrance to Cleveland works, now gone. If so, this is Middlesborough Road East in South Bank, Teesside.

Driving through the plant with the works' gas holder dominating the background. This is the Clay Lane Blast Furnace Plant and the area is now taken by John Boyle Road in the South Tees Freight Park.

Travis parks up outside the canteen of Cochranes Steel & Iron Works.

Taking a breather, Travis checks on his progress. The sign reads 'Welcome to Wakedale and the Royal Wakedale Hotel'. This is not as far north as the sign would have you believe. West End Road in Northolt, at the junction with Harvey Road advises Alan Field.

Returning to the location, Richard Winchester found that the hotel is now branded Double Tree by Hilton but maintains the Majestic title as well as discovering that what appears to be the main entrance to the hotel in the screen capture is actually the back.

Richard Winchester couldn't quite get the right angle due to the restrictions in place associated with the building of a huge marquee in preparation for the Harrogate Festival.

Having left the north east region, Mick Travis heads for the north. Looking in the opposite direction to the earlier part of the journey, again this is the A59 Kex Gill Road near to North Moor Road between Harrogate and Skipton, in North Yorkshire since 1974.

After an incident at the army base, Travis escapes through a devastated landscape, making his way to a country church. Neil Rigby has identified this "country church" as St Cosmas & St Damians, Church Lane in Challock, Kent. (RL)

After hitch hiking, Travis is driven to the Millar Research Clinic where he has agreed to volunteer for research. Unidentified location.

The gatehouse seems to have been demolished. which made it harder to find. But I took a look at the film on You Tube and the road curves just before the limousine turns into the gateway. Gates match. A few alterations to the pillar caps etc. Heathfield Road, Burnham SL60. By the entrance to Hedsor Park Farm. Probably another entrance to Dropmore House. Neil Rigby / Google Streetview.

At the end of the driveway, the car draws up at the entrance to Millar Research Clinic, in reality Dropmore House near Burnham in Buckinghamshire. The building can also be seen in 'The Man Who Had Power Over Women'.

Escaping from the horrors of the clinic, Travis gets a lift from a band and returns to London. The Westway in London W2 with Royal Oak station visible on the right.

While the band are away, Travis heads into central London for a meeting with Sir James Burgess. Nick Cooper has tracked down, via True Form, that the station is Tottenham Court Road. All now under redevelopment for Crossrail. The True Form font changed over the years but Nick's reference to https://www.flickr.com/photos/warsaw1948/6778212310/ supports his identification, as does http://www.ltmcollection.org/photos/photo/photo.html?_IXMAXHITS_=1&IXenlarge=9886278 where the new style "m" of Form can be seen.

Accompanying Sir James Burgess, Travis is taken to Dr. Munda's house. This is Badminton House, at the junction of Marsham Way and Vicarage Way in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire. (SR) Geoff Dodd brings to our attention that the property was also used in ;'The Persuaders!' episode 'The Long Goodbye' appearing to have the same car on the driveway, albeit with different plates. Travis is released from prison along with Laurence Biles (Brian Pettifer), an unnamed Prisoner (Michael Bangerter) and MacIntyre (Ben Aris). Members of the Britmovie forum locate this as Barlinnie Prison in Glasgow, Lanarkshire.

Returning to the location, Andy McArthur 's view shows that the front of Barlinnie Prison has changed dramatically since filming with a new entrance dominating the area. Andy adds that the local nicknames for Barlinnie Prison are "the Big Hoose" or the "Bar L".

The Men follow the Woman as she runs through an alley next to the Borough Cafe on Park Street which also appears in 'Keep the Aspidistra Flying'.

The building survives as a sandwich bar.

Travis follows and comes across a tenement block where someone is threatening suicide. Quinn Buildings in SE1 identified by John Carroll. The tenements were surrounded by Waterloo Road, Morley Street, Dodson Street and Webber Row until they were demolished in the mid 1970s.

Tenement Neighbours (including Mona Washbourne and Dandy Nichols) ask Travis to help. John Carroll tells us that he was born and lived in Quinn Buildings until moving out in 1968 and adds "Towards the end of the film when Malcolm McDowell is climbing a ladder, if you look over his shoulder you can see two white painted windows opposite. That is Block 2 and I was born at number 36."
