Christmas Carol, A (1999)

A Clergyman (Roger Frost) and four attendants watch the approach of a hearse drawn by two black horses. The church of St. Michael and All Angels, Wadenhoe, Northamptonshire.

Now looking from the north-west. The tree branch in the immediate foreground has broken off but the one to the right, matching well, clings on. SJ

While Mr. Crump (John Franklyn-Robbins) the Undertaker looks on, Ebenezer Scrooge (Patrick Stewart) stands at the graveside as his former friend and business partner is lowered into the ground. The church yard of St. Michael and All Angels, Wadenhoe.

Moving on, Scrooge is taken back to his schooldays by the Ghost of Christmas Past where he sees an open carriage taking children home for the holiday. Lilford Bridge crossing the River Nene on the road running between Pilton and Lilford in Northamptonshire located by Catriona Eaton.

The Ghost of Christmas Past (Joel Grey) leads the money-lender to the school building where one boy waits alone. Catriona Eaton identifies this as facing Lilford Bridge over the River Nene at Lilford.

The two enter a schoolroom where they find a younger Ebenezer Scrooge. Kirby Hall is a semi-ruined Elizabethan country house, now managed by English Heritage.

After his Sister collects Scrooge from school, a coach carries the two away. Kirby Hall can be found along Kirby Lane running between Corby and Deene in Northamptonshire.

Apparently fake snow was all prepared to be laid down but then it snowed for real. SJ

Scrooge tells the Spirit that his Sister later gave birth to his nephew, Fred. In 2005, Kirby Hall was also seen in 'A Cock and Bull Story'

The Ghost of Christmas Present (Desmond Barrit) takes Scrooge to the house of his nephew Fred. Gloucester Circus in London SE10 identified by Steve Randall.

The south-east side, 42 (main door round the corner), 41, 40 Gloucester Circus. SJ

After seeing how Fred celebrates, playing games and enjoying time with friends and family, Scrooge recalls his sister Fran before being led away. Steve Randall advises that this is Gloucester Circus, Greenwich, also seen in 'Sex and the Other Woman'.

As he grows older, the Ghost takes Scrooge onward. The Ropery at the Historic Dockyard in Chatham, Kent recognised by Bill Rice.

With all the working historic machinery and slightly different window height in actual The Ropery, I am inclined to think that filming was perhaps done on the first floor of the building but access was not available to me. (RL)

Scrooge notices something moving beneath the ageing spirit's clothing. Bill Rice believes that this is in the Dockyard at Chatham.

The Ghost of Christmas Present pulls open his robes to reveal two wretched children, the demonic Want and Ignorance of mankind.

A distant bell chimes the hour and Scrooge turns to run away when the Ghost disappears. More of the Historic Dockyard in Chatham, located by Bill Rice.

Scrooge is taken to the Stock Exchange where brokers discuss the death of a colleague. The colonnade of the Royal Navy Chapel in Greenwich SE10.

A Broker (Stephen Moore) comments that he can't think of anyone who would attend the funeral. The college was also seen in 'Grimsby', 'Four in the Morning', 'Murder by Decree' and 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'.

Another Broker (Gawn Grainger) indicates that the wouldn't attend as he never wears black gloves. Looking into the courtyard of Queen Mary's Quarter at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

In the rookery, Caroline (Claire Adamson) turns as her husband returns home.

With a saddened face, Caroline's Husband (Joe Jones) approaches. The background buildings are similar in appearance to those in Myrdle Street, London E1.

Caroline is told that Scrooge is dead and that they will now have longer to pay off their debt. A closer look higher up the frontages showing blind windows above the first floor.

Following a visit to Bob Cratchit's household, the Spirit takes Scrooge to a misty graveyard.

The repenting miser looks down onto his own coffin as the gravestone bearing his name cracks open.

On Christmas morning, Scrooge returns to the street where his Nephew lives. Steve Randall found number 41 Gloucester Circus in Greenwich SE10.
