Stitch in Time, A

With bells ringing, an ambulance rushes to Mr Grimsdale's butchers shop after he swallows a pocket watch during an attempted robbery. St Leonards Road, Windsor, Berkshire.

Norman Pitkin (Norman Wisdom) appears from the shop as the ambulance arrives. Looks like a studio set but included for completeness.

The ambulance speeds away with Pitkin and Grimsdale on board. Oxford Road, Windsor.

The ambulance arrives at St Godric's Hospital. Heatherden Hall, Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire.

RJ catches the same angle and time in the morning.

From the other direction, Lady Brinkley's car arrives. Heatherden Hall features in a number of productions including 'Sky West and Crooked', ‘Nothing But the Night’, ‘The Square Peg’, ‘In the Doghouse’, ‘Floods of Fear’, ‘Carry On Again Doctor’, ‘Carry On Camping’, ‘Octopussy’, ‘The First Great Train Robbery’, ‘What a Whopper’, ‘The Iron Maiden’, ‘Consuming Passions’, ‘The Beast in the Cellar’ and ‘The Early Bird’.

When Sir Hector (Jerry Desmonde) greets Lady Brinkley (Jill Melford), both are distracted by Pitkin's antics. Heatherden Hall, Iver Heath.

Pitkin approaches the hospital on his delivery bike. Unconfirmed location.

And again, Lady Brinkley arrives. Heatherden Hall in Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire.

After being banned from the hospital the pair decide to join the St John Ambulance Brigade. Mr. Grimsdale (Edward Chapman) approaches Corporal Welsh (Glyn Houston). Unknown location.

After being bandaged from head to toe during an exercise, Pitkin crashes through the wall when the Brigade are called to an emergency. A studio set included for sake of completeness.

When he lands on the roof of the ambulance, Norman is taken on a fast ride through town. The Lord Raglan pub on St. Leonards Road at the junction with Alma Road in Windsor. Also see in 'Nurse on Wheels'.

The ambulance speeds through the streets. St Leonards Road, Windsor. Rachel Northall recalls "I was seven years old and walking back from town with my sisters and very naughtily pretended to faint at the sight of Norman Wisdom on top of the ambulance as it passed."

A crossroads is negotiated. Dedworth Road at the junction with Vale Road, Windsor.

Pitkin holds tight as the ride continues. Grove Road, Windsor, Berkshire. Rachel continues "My older sister carried me home and put me to bed where I just laughed. She was not amused! I’ve seen a photo somewhere of three girls watching one of the ambulance sequences being filmed which could well have been us."

Taken by Steve Randall, there's no shop now, just a flag for the jubilee.

The ambulance overtakes other traffic. Grove Road in Windsor withe The Crispin public house to the right on the corner of Alexandra Road.

A pub-less junction now as Steve Randall advises that The Crispin closed in 2016.

A low bridge is approached. Barry Avenue looking towards the railway bridge in Windsor, Berkshire.

Nick Boorman captured the location now showing that the road now ends before the arches and the foreground wall has been cut back, However, the house with the chimney stacks remains in the distance.

The journey continues. Frances Road, Windsor.

Steve Randall found a leafier street nowadays.

Pitkin's legs protrude into the path of a lorry coming in the other direction. Looking along Frances Road from the junction with Fairlight Avenue, Windsor. The road was seen from the opposite direction in 'That's Your Funeral'.

Norman is left spinning after the lorry hits his legs. Osborne Road, Windsor.

The ambulance nears the hospital with Pitkin still on the roof. Russell Street, Windsor. The 'Courage' pub on the left is now a restaurant.

In an attempt to get into the hospital, the pair decide that Pitkin should be knocked down by an approaching car.

The lorry stops in time and the Driver (Fred Griffiths) leaves his cab.

Now dressed in St John's Ambulance uniforms, Pitkin and Grimsdale head for a wrestling match. Unidentified location.

After collecting a knocked out Wrestler as a patient, the pair run for the hospital.
