We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. A couple of clues here! Station in Russian is translates as voksal, and it is widely believed that this is derived from Vauxhall station in south London where a Russian delegation first saw a railway station in 1840.
This is the roof of Vitebsky voksal seen from Vinokurtsevskiy pr-d in Saint Petersburg which runs along the east side of the station. (PW)

Harry Hulme advises that Caine is looking at, in order of proximity to him, a) the Kazan Cathedral colonnades, b) the parapet of the canal 'bridge' which is really an extensive courtyard and main road (Nevsky Prospekt), c) The Kutuzov statue, d) the high domed entrance to the Singer building (far left), and finally, in the distance on the right, The Church on the Spilled Blood. Everything has been foreshortened by the camera's depth of field setting which has made the background look huge.
A similar view along the Griboyedov channel (canal), without the depth of focus. (PW)
