Storyline:

One of only 5 in a BBC series called Murder Rooms. Conan Doyle receives inspiration for his creation of Sherlock Holmes from his mentor Dr Joseph Bell. This one concerns strangulation, spiritualism and a photographer, abounding with plot twists.

Please forgive this entry as somewhat a vanity project but I was in this one as a member of a theatre audience followed by a star turn as a tea-boy for which at my age I was rather grateful. It was originally scheduled for transmission on the 11th September 2001 but horrendous events delayed it for a week. SJ

This is the interior of Wilton's, E1, an oft seen location. It is a trick shot. We extras, sorry background artistes, all sat on one side then moved to the other for a second shot and then magic did the rest.

And after 18 years I returned to see a show. SJ

A real location? The Fish and Coal Office, Wharf Road, Kings Cross, London. (SD)

Now known as the Coal Office, Bagley Walk, N1C. The Fish and Coal office was situated on the disused Kings Cross goods yard. In 1983 the building was gutted by fire and remained abandoned until 2018. Now after careful restoration the building has become the studio of designer Tom Dixon and the Coal Office restaurant. (SD)

Hayman and Richardson. This was filmed in a dark and dank Kings' Cross shed just east of the canal and gasometers seen in Alfie. The late Richardson was kind enough to chat soon after this shot.
