Mark 'Rent Boy' Renton (Ewan McGregor) goes through the motions of kicking his heroin habit. Well Green in Pollokshaws, Glasgow G43.

Andy McArthur provides this wider view of the building showing that windows have been replaced and gone is that mixture of coloured curtains and blinds.

Renton follows Diane (Kelly Macdonald) after spending the evening alone in a nightclub. IMDB tells us that this is Benalder Street in Glasgow, Strathclyde. The area has been redeveloped.

Phil h confirms that it is indeed Benalder Street and provides this shot from Google Maps of the redeveloped site. He admits that he "had a few good nights" at the Volcano and the overhead satellite view shows the shape of the tenements in the background. (RL)

The following morning, Renton finds out that Diane is an under age schoolgirl.

Tommy MacKenzie (Kevin McKidd) and his girlfriend Lizzy (Pauline Lynch) wait for the video shop to open when they believe that a compromising tape has been returned in error. 329 Dumbarton Road, Glasgow G11 confirmed by Andy McArthur.

Along with Blockbuster, Andy realised that Azad's video rental store is a thing of the past.

Renton accompanies Diane to school. Outside Jordanhill School on Chamberlain Road, Jordanhill, Glasgow.

Diane tells Renton that she will tell the police if he doesn't agree to see her again. Chamberlain Road, Glasgow G13.

A very similar view captured by Andy, in which a waste bin has made an appearance to the extreme bottom left.

Knowing that he's trapped, Renton walks away. Facing the junction of Chamberlain Road and Woodend Drive.

There are visible differences in Andy McArthur's shot with the extended pavement to calm traffic and bollards to keep pedestrians safe.

Swanney calls for a taxi after providing Renton with a hit. Chris Crawford advises that the background tenements stand on Arthurlie Street, Teucharhill, a pretty tough and deprived area to the south of Govan in Glasgow.

Andy McArthur faced east to where the tenement flats once stood. In their place, a modern industrial estate.

Renton lies unconscious as an ambulance passes nearby. Looking east along McGregor Street, Govan identified by Chris Crawford who adds that the housing scheme was in the process of being demolished at the time of filming.

Swanney (Peter Mullan) sits on the kerb as the taxi approaches. McGregor Street in Teucharhill G51 located by Chris Crawford who explains that the background block stands on Ardlaw Street and that Rowan Park Business Park now occupies the site of the estate.

Taken by Andy McArthur at ground level to mimic the film capture. Again, the film camera would probably have been further along McGregor Street.

The taxi driver drops a still unconscious Renton at the hospital. Canniesburn Hospital, Bearsden in Glasgow G61 identified by Andy McArthur who adds that the main building was demolished following closure in 2003 with the original B Listed buildings being converted into dwellings by Cala Homes.

The view now captured by Andy who adds "The hospital held international renown for the plastic surgery carried out there and is remembered in the BBC documentary 'The Boy David' which featured an abandoned Peruvian boy with a facial deformity who was brought to Glasgow to receive surgery followed by skin grafting."

After being forced through 'cold turkey' by his parents, Renton visits his friend Tommy. Seen several times before, this is a view of Trellick Tower and the Cheltenham Estate in Kensal Green W10 located by Steve Randall.

Renton arrives in London and finds a job with an estate agent. Bishopsgate near the corner of Wormwood Street in EC2 with Tower 42 (The NatWest Tower) standing on Old Broad Street in the left background.

The same tower, and Peter thought that he'd captured the new Bishopsgate sign attached to the building . . . but alas, his new glasses let him down.

Andy McArthur's comparison has the gates now opening to the inside and visible again are the bollards to keep pedestrians safe on the pavements.

She mentions that Sick Boy asked her to work for him and that Spud sends his regards. This is outside number 19 Byres Road in Partick Cross, Glasgow G11 located by Andy McArthur following a good deal of research.

Andy took this view using the reverse selfie method which saves lying on a wet pavement to look upwards . . . . effective, but not for the uninitiated.

When Begbie and Sick Boy arrive and take up residence in Renton's London flat, he moves them into one of the estate agent's properties. The corner of Talgarth Road and North End Road.

After a mutual acquaintance obtains cut price heroin from two Russian sailors, the friends arrange to buy it and sell it on for a profit. Smallbrook Mews on Craven Road, London W2.
