Anderson Tapes, The

After their release from prison, The Kid (Christopher Walken), William "Pop" Myer (Stan Gottlieb) and John "Duke" Anderson (Sean Connery) arrive in New York. The Port Authority Bus Terminal, 8th Avenue, New York, New York, USA.

Duke arrives at his ex Girlfriend's apartment block. The Convent of the Sacred Heart on East 91st Street seen from 5th Avenue, New York. The building was also seen in 'Night at the Museum' and 'Nine to Five'.

New York scaffolding strikes again.

Yet another angle is viewed. The building on East 91st Street stands opposite Carnegie Hill Mansion which was seen in 'The Next Man', also starring Sean Connery.

After planning the robbery, Duke goes in search of The Kid. Whilst scouring the internet, Steve Randall came across NYC in Film's web site which details several locations that we couldn't find. The electrical supply shop is identified as 332 Canal Street, New York 10013.

A surveillance crew watches as Duke heads to meet Spencer. NYC in Film explain that the mocked-up Black Panther Party office stands at 64 East 4th Street in New York.

Taken from ground level. The front of the building looks completely different but number 62 on the right is unchanged apart from the colour, the curved standpipe is still there too.

With feet firmly on the ground, Janette Cotton looked up a the rooftop where a new high fence has been erected around the inside of the balustrade, presumably for Health & Safety reasons. The left-hand side of the building faces Central Park.

Pop Myer calls Duke and is given a role to play in the robbery. Across the street can be seen a Ripley's Waxworks sign so . . . .

. . . and referencing the 'NYC in Films' website, Ripley's Waxworks was located at 1539 Broadway, on the west side of Times Square.

Loaded with coffee and cakes, Duke heads from a bakery to join Pat. Sullivan Street near the junction with West Houston Street in Manhattan.

Now a café in what appears to be an amalgamation of numbers 150 and 152 Sullivan Street. Above the doorway to the left of the café it reads 150, however, 152 and the business to the left of that is also numbered 150, but the café matches with the trim on the left pillar of door frame and the moulding of the window ledge. So it's now 150 Sullivan Street Café but 152 on the window of the original bakery. There isn't a business at number 152 any more which doesn't make sense!

The funeral procession moves away and Duke starts to negotiate for 'mob' investment in the caper. Sullivan Street.

Cardinali Deli was at 137 Sullivan Street, this is the building with the blue parasol outside on the now shot.

The cortege heads out of town. This appears to be the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge running between Harlem and Randalls Island, New York 10454.

A Mayflower removal truck is taken by the gang. Between West 18th and West 17th Streets in New York 10011. In the background is the 'High Line' or West Side Line, formerly an elevated freight railway and now a linear park.

The truck is driven from the yard. Facing 11th Avenue in West Chelsea opposite Pier 59 with the West Side Elevated Highway crossing the scene. The elevated highway was demolished in the late 1980's.

The screen capture shows yellow pillars with a circular decoration about a third of the way up. The front of the building has been renovated but those motifs are still there.

The road is a little busier.

The Antique shop on the left is still an antique shop and the fire hydrant is still there, but it was all covered with scaffolding, so this is taken a couple of steps past the shop.

The Mayflower truck heads across town. 6th Avenue, the Avenue of the Americas, at the junction with West 28th Street.

Panning with the truck from the previous capture sees 6th Avenue at the junction with West 29th Street.

Taken a bit too close but the view that matched the capture was obliterated by trees. The building with the stepped roof on the right is a match.

The city centre is negotiated. Times Square, looking north west along West 46th Street from Broadway. Times Square can be seen in numerous productions including 'A King in New York', ‘The File of the Golden Goose’, ‘The Man Without a Body’ and ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’.

With so much advertising now it is difficult to know what might be original behind. (RL)
