Can you help:

If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

The Contra Dam (commonly known as the Verzasca Dam), Canton of Ticino, Switzerland. Manuel Gurtner adds that the dam is ituated at the entrance to the narrow Verzasca valley near Locarno. The arch dam, built in 1965, has a height of 220m and retains the water of the Verzasca river, creating the Vogorno lake.

Contributor Hamilton McMurray took this excellent shot of the Contra Dam. Without renting a plane and flying straight at the structure, this is the best way to replicate the shot from the movie!

Bond runs with his bungee rope along the top of the Contra Dam, Ticino, Switzerland.

Hamilton McMurray provides an interesting updated now shot which includes, on the right hand side, the platform where people brave (or mad) enough to reenact Bond’s (or more accurately Brosnan stunt-double Wayne Michaels) spectacular 720ft jump. He only needed to perform the stunt once as the first try was good enough!

007 prepares to jump from the top of the Contra Dam in Ticino, Switzerland. Stuntman Wayne Michaels did the jump and set a record for highest bungee jump off a fixed structure.

Hamilton McMurray again took an excellent shot from the jump position. He also mentioned that visitors could do the bungee jump just like in the movie for about 100 Euro, and many were! But after careful thought and consideration, he decided the view he already had was good enough!

Bond prepares to enter the complex that, despite the caption, is actually at the Contra Dam, Ticino, Switzerland.

Hamilton McMurray provides a shot from an angle looking at the bottom of the dam jump. You can see the platform on the right where Bond anchors himself.

Chris Ramos does a great match shot here and in the next one...

Pierce Brosnan gets out in front of the "Casino de Monte-Carlo", the Monte Carlo Casino, Monaco.

Website visitor Chris Ramos sent a good daytime shot of the front of the Casino.

Hamilton McMurray provides an excellent updated shot of this location.

  • 'Now' required

The Tiger helicopter is about to go missing with the Fort Antoine (from Golde010) in the background on the right. The harbour wall with the small lighthouse has been extended since filming.

  • 'Now' required

No one realises (apart from Bond) that the helicopter is being stolen. in the background there is the Quai Albert 1er, 98000 Monaco.

Palace Square in St Petersburg, Russia with part of the Hermitage museum (Winter Palace) building on the right and the Alexander Column on the left.

Looking across to the other side of Palace Square in St Petersburg, Russia. The General Staff Building arch is in the middle background.

When visiting St Petersburg Hamilton McMurray got this decent pic in Palace Square, which is as good as we could hope for as a match to the film image capture. Hamilton also added that he travelled there from Moscow on the Sapsan high-speed train, which he said provides a tolerably Bond-worthy experience!

Pierce Brosnan apparently arrives at St Petersburg airport but in fact he is on the steps of The Queens Stand at Epsom Downs Racecourse, Surrey KT18.

Rob Smith & Becca Andrews snapped this updated image to show a much less busy Epsom Downs racecourse building. There was some work being done on site and so it wasn’t possible to get any closer on the day.

  • 'Now' required

Joe Don Baker waits patiently outside in St Petersburg airport . . . actually The Queens Stand at Epsom Downs Racecourse, Surrey KT18.

  • 'Now' required

The luxury transport awaits in the form of a Zaporozhets ZAZ-965A parked somewhere (presumably) outside Epsom Downs Racecourse, Surrey KT18. The actual location of this shot has been subject of debate, as the DVD commentary suggests they didn't do any reverse angles when filming at Epsom. So is it possible this shot was grabbed on the studio lot sometime later? But the DVD commentary also states the racecourse used was Ascot, so that detail was also incorrect. The location of the car compared to where Pierce & Joe are standing would place that white building on a patch of green grass. So perhaps it was a building that was subsequently removed? The mystery continues...

Brosnan is initially suspicious of the CIA officer played by Joe Don Baker. The Queen’s Stand at Epsom Downs Racecourse is in the background on the right.

This slightly wider shot from Becca Andrews and Rob Smith clearly shows the name of the Queen Elizabeth stand. Although they had informed security about their visit, upon arrival there was work being done in preparation for the Epsom Derby and so they had to get as good a shot as possible without getting as close as they would have liked.

The pair breakdown in St Petersburg Square. In fact they are in central London at Somerset House, Strand, WC2R.

Peter didn't have to visit the city named after him either.

It seems a sledgehammer will do the trick! Somerset House, Strand, WC2R. Location was also seen in 'Tomorrow Never Dies'.

A clearer view of the same location by Peter.

Izabella Scorupco heads into a building in St Petersburg. Charlie Bodycomb confirms that this was indeed shot on the Leavesden Studio set.

  • 'Now' required

Finally a shot of the real St Petersburg in Russia. The bridge is the Birzhevoy most, and the road on the otherside is Birzhevaya Pl.

Supposedly a church in St Petersburg but is in fact Brompton Cemetery, Earls Court, London SW10. The cemetery can also be seen in 'Johnny English', 'Afraid of the Dark', 'Eastern Promises', 'Melody' and 'Under Suspicion'.

Nick Knight captured an almost identical shot, but have "we" lost somebody? (RL)

Apparently 'The Grand Hotel' in St Petersburg but is actually The Langham, 1c Portland Place, Regent Street, London, W1B.

The car with General Ourumov (played by Gottfried John) turns on Senate Square in St Petersburg Russia, just in front of the Constitutional Court.

  • 'Now' required

Bond skids the tank towards the arch of Constitutional Court in the real St Petersburg, Russia. Charlie Bodycomb (who was part of the films 2nd Unit) mentions that the tank stunt driver Gary Powell became very good at throwing the T85 tank around. Just as well given that the grand Court building dates from the 1830s!

The car pulls into the yard where Alec Trevelyan's (Sean Bean) train sits waiting. This location was the old sugar beet factory in Woodston, Peterborough. It has since been demolished.

  • 'Now' required

The train was a heavily modified British Rail Class 20, D20188 along with two similar modified British Rail MK 2 coaches. Location was the (now demolished) old sugar beet factory in Woodston, Peterborough.

The train passes through Ferry Meadows railway station, Peterborough. The station was erected and opened in 1977 by the Nene Valley Heritage Railway. They advise us that in 2004 a new station building was added, previously at Fletton Junction on the East Coast Main Line, the building was dismantled, moved to Ferry Meadows and re-built brick-by-brick in its current location. In 2017, Ferry Meadows was renamed to its original name of Overton as part of the Railway's 40th Anniversary celebrations. Alan McDonnell visited the location in the late 1990's and his photograph can be seen as a comparative shot in Capture 53. (RL)

Website visitor Ian Johnson has sent this recent image that he took. It also clearly shows part of the aforementioned new station building that was added in 2004.

  • 'Now' required

Brosnan and Scorupco are set for a romantic encounter on the beach near Tortuguero in Costa Rica.

  • 'Now' required

The heroic pair attempt to infiltrate the control station. The big dish location is the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico.

  • 'Now' required

Bond sprints up to the antenna cradle of the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. The location was also seen in the Jodie Foster film 'Contact'.

A repeat of Capture 49 for comparative purposes. (RL)

Ferry Meadows Station

Alan McDonnell visited the same location in the late 1990's, whilst unable to achieve the correct angle without trespassing he noted that there were no rolling stock in the yard and it looked very much like the film still. (RL)
