Neil Rigby sent s Google shot to support his identification of "somewhere" as Geffrye Street, Hackney E2, now replaced: the entrance to Hoxton Overground is hidden by the new glass building. SJ

A rough street (I assume dressed for the film).

Neil Rigby provided a Google shot so we can make our own minds up as whether it is "rough" or "dressed". Temple Street, Bethnal Green, London E2, now replaced by SJ.

A vintage car pulls into view.

Neil identified Queens Gate Mews, London SW7 which Google endorsed, but now replaced by a more accurate shot. This is close to Gloucester Road at the westernmost adjunct of the mews. SJ

A car pulls up at a London location.

Neil Rigby found the location, with the aid of Google, as Blossom Street, London E1 which he recognised from Archie's lockup in Series 11 "Minder". Image now replaced, taken from the corner of Fleur de Lis Street, just north of Spitalfields, by SJ

The van heads for a garage.

According to Neil Rigby the garage is at Kendal St/Park West, London W2 and this replaces his Google shot. SJ

A car peeps out from a side alley. There is a chance that this may be the Pinewood studio set.

The guys check out a London building.

Neil Rigby with the aid of Google checked this out as the building on the corner of Baker Street next to The Globe public house on Marylebone Road, NW1. And here is the matching now taken from the underpass. SJ

This looks very much like the real Lloyds Bank on Baker Street, London NW1, but it is an optical effect combining the Pinewood set with digital street extension, as detailed in the behind-the-scenes documentary on the DVD. Also site visitor Chris Hall mentions a bit of additional trivia about the street looking like a set, as the SGE type traffic lights have too many black and white stripes on the pole. Also among the traffic is one of the first three prototype Routemaster buses, identified by the different radiator grille.

Saffron Burrows gets picked up.

According to Neil, Saffron was picked up in Queen's Gate Mews, London SW7. This is from Queen's Gate Terrace looking north towards the 'Layer Cake' location. Note the finial gaps still there in the railings. SJ

That "street" is actually Mecklenburgh Square, London WC1 according to Neil Rigby and Google Earth. And this replaces the google. SJ

Neil Rigby and Google brought us back once again to Queens Gate Mews London SW7, now replaced, but the tilt is wrong so another go may be welcome. SJ

One gang member is about the pay the ultimate price at an unknown London street. Neil Rigby suggests this as Christ Church, Southwark, London SE1. Having visited with a view to taking a "now" I would agree that the brickwork matches, as does the ironwork railings but so much re-development is in course it is impossible to confirm or establish where this shot might have been taken. Other frames either side might help. Oh yes, a number of trees have that "V" shape! (RL)

At the gangsters unidentified overseas hideout. Possibly Sardinia, Italy... Daniela Bianchi followed up on Sardinia and came up with Maria Pia pine forest (next to Maria Pia beach in Alghero), while the final scene with the family on the boat was filmed at Lazzaretto beach in Alghero (plenty of coves).
