Dial 999 (aka The Way Out)

Terry Carradine (Mona Freeman) leaves her flat to meet her husband who she has learned has killed a man and is wanted by the police. Corner Fielde, Wavertree Road, London SW2.

Still very much the same today.

She waits for a bus to meet her husband Greg (Gene Nelson) at an agreed rendezvous. Streatham Hill near Wavertree Road.

Being followed by the police she jumps off the bus and crosses the road to hail a taxi. Streatham Hill.

Much the same but the bus stop has been moved a few yards, but helps the shot!

…and is taken to Baker Street station. The station stands on Marylebone Road NW1 and also appears in 'The Strange Case of the End of Civilization as We Know It', 'Home at Seven' and ‘Ring of Spies’.

The entrances and shops have been changed over the years.

She "grabs" the next available taxi just as the previous passenger starts to pay to go to an apartment of some absent friends to meet Greg.

The station entrance is now a shop.

Peter did well to obtain the comparative shots as Ross Court has now been 'upgraded' to a gated community although the overall appearance remains much the same.

As with the other shots, Peter managed this by poking his lens through the fence and still managed to be very close to angle.

This further capture for identification purposes has finally revealed its name, to Peter Bywaters who advises Ross Court, 81 Putney Hill, London SW15 now a gated community with high security.

Despite the security Peter was able to obtain this shot for us, maybe their CCTV captured him too! Today the residents of Ross Court have allocated parking bays.

The police drive Terry to her place of work. Dave W is concerned at the time it has taken him to recognise this location, don't worry, look at it this way Dave, you are still the first. Monmouth Street, London WC2 with Sheldon Street going off to the right. The wedge-shaped building also appears in 'Devil Doll' C7.

Greg telephones Terry whilst she is at the apartment of her friend Vera (Paula Bryne). Ian Hedgcock identifies this as Upper Richmond Road looking east from the end of Sheen Court. (RL)

Establishing shot of Harding & Co where Terry works. An unusual entwined chimney just off centre and the word “Fire” dead centre. Another location for Dave W to add to his tally, Harding & Co is on the corner of West St WC2 and Monmouth St looking north.

There's a plaque (coloured blue but not the familiar blue plaque) just to the left out of shot to commemorate Baird's first experimental television transmissions. SJ

Terry visits Southwood greyhound kennels to arrange for Greg to be smuggled out of the country. An unidentified location that looks as if it might be a genuine greyhound kennels.

Terry meets Tom Smithers (Charles Victor) at the kennels to secure the arrangement to move Greg out through the port of Ramsgate.

Terry and brother John set off by bus to meet Smithers with a view to speeding up the departure arrangements. Establishing shot. For the sake of the film the bus turns off route into what is now Streatham Place.

The junction of Brixton Hill and Streatham Hill, no buses off route today.

The police having dutifully waited at the lights follow the bus.

While the police wait at the traffic lights Terry and John leave the bus after it rounds the corner and hide in a doorway. In reality this stop is before the lights in Brixton Hill. What these Directors will do!

Re-arrangements made, she heads down Victoria Street SW1 in one of Smithers vehicles.

Rather more traffic to hide in these days.

Into Lower Regent Street to pick up Greg from a bar in Jermyn Street, SW1

They head off out of London for Ramsgate. Finally, Dave W has resolved this long outstanding location for us, Vauxhall Bridge Road SW1 looking north west. To the right of the bus is the corner facade of the White Swan public house on Causton Street. (RL)

I have had occasion to enjoy the patronage of The White Swan (the light grey building) during the years. SJ

Was there really somewhere with so many cooling towers? Croydon 'B' Power Station identified by Jamie Sturgeon who adds that the view of Beddington Lane, looking slightly east of north.

Peter Bywaters visited Beddington Lane and captured this shot of the location now, without a reference point he "hopes that he is not too far off the mark". It looks pretty close to me Peter. He also provides information from the online Local Guardian, 30th October 2003. "The cooling towers were completed in 1950 and operational by December 1951. Croydon B power station was eventually closed in 1984 with the towers demolished in 1985."

Terry and her brother swap vehicles and change the registration numbers and emerge from Spencers Garage. The Rush leading to Watery Lane in Merton SW19. The garage and the roads around also appear in 'Marriage of Convenience', 'Dead Man's Chest', 'Konga', 'The Cross-Roads Gallows', 'Egghead's Robot' and 'The Key Man'.

“No sign of them on the main roads in Kent” remarks the Chief Inspector (Michael Golden). Not surprising they are in New Malden, Surrey! John Titheridge advises that the parade is opposite Motspur Park Station.

After a struggle with the police Greg is finally caught but is run over by a passing coach. Unidentified location.
