Bell-Bottom George

Admiral Sir William Coltham (Peter Gawthorne) visits the shipyard where a secret submarine is being built. Leslie Holmes identifies this as Fleetwood Jubilee Dock between the, then, double slipways looking northwest across Jubilee Quay in Fleetwood, Lancashire. In the distance can be seen the roof of the Fleetwood Arms public house which is still standing and in use as a dental practice.

Alexander John explains that the shipyard is the basin dock and that side of it has now become a housing estate with part remaining as port authority land with marsh land beyond.

Whilst spies plot to obtain plans of the submarine, George Blake (George Formby) races with a delivery boy. Queen's Terrace, Fleetwood in Lancashire with the railway station on the right. Mark Gillatt adds that the large building on the right is the main railway station which was closed in 1966 the site of which was subsequently developed as a pub. a cafe, a nightclub and later used as car parking for the ro-ro ferry until becoming derelict land. On the right, the building with the flag pole is the Custom House, now Fleetwood Museum and currently covered in scaffolding, while beyond is the Queen's Terrace apartments which appear largely unchanged.

After donning the naval uniform of Jim Bennett, George runs from Pat, a WREN, and joins a boat heading for a warship. The quayside in the Wyre Dock channel, Fleetwood with properties on Dock Street in the background.

With the exact location hard to identify, Alexander John took this wider shot towards Dock Street, where the buildings have long since been demolished.

When spotted by Jim Bennett and two Military Policemen, George jumps onto the running board of a passing car. Warrenhurst Road, Fleetwood.

Taken from the safety of the footpath, tram lines help Alexander John here as most of the corner is unrecognisable.

Alexander John points out the tram lines, part of the Fleetwood routes that have been continuously operating since opening towards the end of Queen Victoria's reign in 1898.

Pat drives over a bridge, heading for the quay.

The police car gets caught in traffic as Pat clears the bridge. The site of the long demolished Fleetwood railway station identified by Alexander John who adds "The line to Fleetwood was axed during the Beeching cuts and the land is currently owned by the Port Authority. The site is fenced off awaiting redevelopment."
