Death of an Angel

Behind the credits a single engine and autocoach make their way along a railway track that looks to be next to a quite large riverside. Michael B resolves this long outstanding capture for us. The train is the 'Marlow Donkey' passing the flooded gravel quarries at Westhorpe on the west side of Marlow Buckinghamshire. The single track branch line survived the Beeching cuts and now runs an hourly service with a modern two carriage train.

Tree growth made it impossible for Michael to take an image from the same angle as the capture so he took this from a clearing nearby but he still managed to capture the passing train.

The camera pans from the station name “Evenbridge” to the trains arrival of Chris Boswell (Raymond Young). Marlow station in Buckinghamshire, at the end of the short branch from Bourne End.

He steps outside in anticipation of a waiting taxi but Walter Grannage (Russell Waters), the local Bank Manager “recognizes” Chris as the new doctor.

Andrew Price send us this shot of where the booking hall would have been.

Chris decides to walk and arrives at “Oakwood”. Steve Randall resolves this one for us, Grade ll listed 'The Green', Holyport, Berkshire, not surprisingly, it is virtually unchanged.

Quickly following his identification Steve provides us with a perfect comparative shot.

Chris is quickly involved in the village cricket match, a church near the pitch. Tony Winzar places this as Maidenhead & Bray Cricket Club in Bray, Berkshire with St. Michaels Church in the background.

Steve provides a wider shot, 'from the outfield', providing a more comprehensive view of the location.

A distinctive house behind the site screen, included to aid identification. The "distinctive house" house certainly helped Tony to place this as Maidenhead & Bray Cricket Club, Bray Road in Bray.

Steve sends us his own shot to replace Tony's Google Earth View.

Tony send this slightly off angle shot that he took in 2015 not knowing that it might ever be required by Reelstreets.

A repeat of Capture 7 to support Steve Randall's 'on angle shot' for we would not usually take down a contributors own image even if it is 'slightly off angle'.

Steve found that the pavilion has certainly been enhanced.

Chris travels to London “to collect the rest of his things”, is seen off by the practice nurse Ann Marlow (Jean Hodge) and he is accompanied on the journey by Walter Grannage. Marlow station once again.

Mary Welling is taken ill in the night and is taken to hospital where Chris arrives later on having been alerted by the practice nurse Ann Marlow. The ambulance doesn't mean that it IS a hospital!

After Walter Grannage turns up at the house believing that it was the Doctor who had been found dead Chris goes off to question him at his house and finds the lounge full of photographs of the doctors wife. Tony has found this one too, the back of Bray Studios, which also appears in 1959's 'The Mummy', 'The House Across the Lake', 'Dracula: Prince of Darkness' and 'The Curse of Frankenstein' amongst many other productions.

Left alone in the house Judy (Julie Somers) the doctors young daughter, runs off to find her father but is waylaid by Grannage who wants to find him as well. As Judy tries to escape his clutches they play “hide and seek” in an old mill. Michael B resolves another oustanding location for us. Temple Mill Island just uplstream from Marlow, the mills have been demolished and the island is now a gated community of houses and a marina.

The Police arrive in the nick of time to arrest Grannage, the poison he was administering to Dr Welling had been switched allowing Chris and Ann to marry and head off for a well earned honeymoon, waved off by Doctor Welling (Patrick Barr) and his daughter. Another shot of Marlow station which was also seen in 'Child's Play', 'Four Sided Triangle' and 'Nearly a Nasty Accident'.

Andrew also provides this shot for us, as he says "Looking West towards the booking hall and the end of the line." Literally!

A repeat of the previous capture, in order to use Phil Richard's comparative shot used in 'Four Sided Triangle' Capture 13.

Phil's comparative shot shows that the houses remain even if the station is long gone. However, it is pleasing to note that some of the platform remains and can be seen where the cars are parked on the left.
