One Hour to Zero (Children’s Film Foundation)

The film opens with views of the countryside surrounding the Nuclear Research Station near fictional Llanfawr in North Wales. The now disused Trawsfyndd nuclear power station near Trawsfynydd in Gwynedd, Wales.

After Tom explains what Steve has been up to, Sam Rogers is called away to an emergency at the Research Station as he starts to tell his son off. Andrew Wheatley advises that this is on the westernmost part of Maes Gerddi, a street and small housing estate north of Porthmadog. (RL)

Steve packs his bag and leaves the house after telling his sister that he's fed up of continually being told off by their father. Andrew Wheatley advises that this was the A470 north of Blaenau Ffestiniog which was straightened between 2006 and 2009. (RL)

After crossing the main road, Steve makes his way into the mountains above the quarry.

The next morning, Steve follows Paul back to the village after being persuaded to return home. Despite the road sign, Andrew also places this on Maes Gerddi (RL)

Touring the area on a baking hot day, Al Samujh provides the proof.

The two make their way along a deserted street. Facing the south-east on Fronwynion Street.

Paul and Steve try to work out what has happened to their families and the villagers. Andrew Wheatley advises that these public toilets were on Stryd Fawr, High Street, in Porthmadog, opposite the Coliseum cinema. They were demolished in the 2000s and the site is now part of the Tesco car park. (RL)

As Al Samujh remembers, the old concrete toilets were roughly where the new police station now stands. "Though you can't see them in this shot, some of the old concrete pillars survive to form part of Tesco's perimeter fence."

An open doorway is spotted at the local cash & carry. Andrew Wheatley does not believe that this was shot across the road from 029 and 031. (RL)

Passing through the gateway, the pair run towards the warehouse. Andrew believes that this was to the right of the toilets (029) and now forms part of the Tesco Extra store and filling station. (RL)

After he's disturbed by the boys whilst looting, Mike Ellis (Dudley Sutton) runs from the cash & carry. Facing Fronwynion Street from Pen Y Gareg in Trawsfynydd.

Having lost Ellis as they follow him from the village, Paul and Steve catch sight of the Research Station. Trawsfyndd nuclear power station, Gwynedd.

Unbeknownst to the boys, the villagers have been evacuated to a nearby community centre because of the emergency at the Research Centre. Greg Taylor identifies this as the Winston Churchill Theatre off Pinn Way in Ruislip, Greater London.

Paul arrives at the quarry and calls to Steve as Ellis creeps up behind.

As Steve hears Paul's cries for help and tries to release him from the hut, Ellis continues his escape.

Peter Jenkins runs into the quarry after defying the authorities and going in search of his son.

The streets remain silent as Sam battles with the Research Station's controls as the clock counts down to an explosion.

Paul is released by his father and the two wait with Steve as the predicted time of the explosion approaches . . . . . and passes.

Ellis is stopped at a police road-block.

Professor Stonely (Morris Perry) shakes Sam's hand as he congratulates him on averting a disaster.
