If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Lily (Billie Whitelaw) heads back to Dame Beatrice Appleby's Kensington apartment where she works as a maid. Immediately on the left is Durward House on Kensington Court W8. Location identified by Simon James.

Now. SJ

Dame Beatrice's house guests look down into the street as their host's car approaches. Simon advises that this is Kensington Court with Kensington Court Mansions on the left. This first view of the Standard 8 featured throughout the film (JT).

From ground level. SJ

Just beaten by the DHL van. SJ

After Major Rayne, Dame Beatrice and the others agree to steal furs, the first shop is targeted. Facing Queen's Grove from Queen's Terrace in NW8. The phone box has gone but the post box remains.

All intact. SJ

Elizabeth "Pinkie" Pinkerton (Elspeth Duxbury) and Dame Beatrice Appleby (Athene Seyler) get out of the battered car.

Now. SJ

Dame Beatrice phones the Major to call Madame Spolinski away from her shop. The junction of Queen's Grove and Queen's Terrace.

The phone box has definitely gone. SJ

Pinkerton watches as Madame Spolinski leaves the premises. Outside The Knights of St. John's Tavern on Queen's Terrace NW8. The pub closed in the early 1990s but the building survives.

A bland office front on the ground floor, but it looks better higher with its original name intact. SJ

Dame Beatrice enters the shop behind Pinkerton and the two successfully make off with fur coats. Queen's Grove in St. John's Wood.

A railing's appeared but the wall is behind the fleet of parked cars. SJ

After the name of a fence is obtained, the Major and Dame Beatrice drive to his office. Boyton House and Elgood House, beyond, on Kingsmill Terrace NW8, the same area where scenes from 'Behind the Headlines' were shot.

Now, whence did this tree spring? The foreground is Elgood House and in the background Fettes House over St. John's Wood Terrace. Boton House to the right out of shot. SJ

The Standard 8 is parked up. Kingsmill Terrace in St. John's Wood.

Looking south. SJ

Dame Beatrice goes inside to sell the mink to the Honourable Freddie Warrington, who she recognises as her nephew. Kingsmill Terrace.

Closer shot here. SJ

The proceeds from the mink are donated to an orphanage as the police attempt to stop the impromptu gang's spree. Correcting a previous identification, Dave W locates this is the rear of Rochester Row police station, Vincent Square, London SW1. Also seen in 'Innocent Meeting', The Child and the Killer' and 'The Great Van Robbery'. (RL)

Vincent Square, London SW1

Now developed into something rather more salubrious. (RL)

Vincent Square London SW1 Circa 1961

The shot follows the squad cars as they leave the station yard. Dave W advises Vincent Square, London SW1 looking north with Vane Street entering from the left. (RL)

Vincent Square, London SW1

Other than the addition of greenery, little has changed. (RL)

More police are alerted as the newspapers report the robberies. Outside Muswell Hill Police Station, Fortis Green in Muswell Hill, London N2, another sequence that also appears in 'Innocent Meeting', 'The Great Van Robbery' and 'The Child and the Killer'.

Replacing Jules Ballantyne's Google shot of what was Muswell Hill Police Station. (RL)

The camera pans with the cars as they speed away. Looking east on Fortis Green.

Replacing Jules' other Google Earth shot, regrettably now with scaffolding. (RL)

To help other charities, more thefts are planned. Muswell Hill Broadway in N10.

Peter provides this comparison of the same location.

Dressed as a Police Sergeant, Major Albert Rayne (Terry-Thomas) escapes with several coats following another robbery. This is St. John's Wood High Street in London NW8.

Still identifiable. SJ

After giving the minks to Dame Beatrice waiting in her car, the Major runs ahead to stop traffic. St. John's High Street with St. Ann's Terrace running into the right distance and Circus Road heading off to the left.

A corner rethink for the Circus Road/St Ann's Terrace. SJ

Looking along Circus Road from the junction with St. John's Wood High Street, St. Ann's Terrace and St. John's Wood Terrace. Terry Thomas holding his hand up, again.

Looking south-west, Kingsmill Terrace to the right. SJ

Dame Beatrice pulls away. Facing south-east along St. John's Wood High Street.

Actually, difficult to see the match but it looked good at the time. Should've zoomed. SJ

Almost stalling her car, the elderly Dame drives off. The corner of St. John's Wood High Street and Circus Road. John Disson who has been so helpful in identifying some of the locations advises that "DAVIS" was a bread shop in the 1920 and 30s where his mother worked. Next door was a flower shop run by the daughters of the Salamone family who also ran the greengrocers in the High Street which is seen in 'One Way Out' capture 008.

A little bit more to the right is a better angle. SJ

The car eventually gathers speed. St. Ann's Terrace seen from the junction with St. John's Wood High Street, Circus Road and St. John's Wood Terrace.

A rebuilt corner but the white houses remain the same. SJ. Replacing Simon's fuzzy shot.........with his agreement. (RL)

A Sergeant (Peter Vaughan) becomes suspicious of the Major in his disguise. John Disson provided the answer to this one, St Ann's Terrace with the entrance to Ordnance Mews just in view to the left with Mountjoy & Son, butchers, on the corner and the printers next door were T. G. Norris. (RL)

The changing face of shopping parades. (RL)

When he's unable to answer the Sergeant's questions, Major Rayne makes a run for it. The junction of St. John's Wood High Street, Circus Road, St. Ann's Terrace and St. John's Wood Terrace.

This is definitely a good match. Looking east. SJ

The Major keeps running as police bells are heard following. South End Green in London NW3 with Pond Street straight ahead and South End Green fountain in the right foreground. Simon James identified the location which was also seen in 'Operation Third Form'.

Now, since 1974, with the Royal Free hospital in place behind. SJ

A main road is crossed and Major Rayne heads for an underground convenience. The toilets still exist at South End Green, as does Elm Terrace to the extreme right.

That rare precious London convenience, free loos. SJ

The Major reappears in his underwear and jogs away. South End Green at the junction of South End Road, Constantine Road, Pond Street and Fleet Road in Hampstead Heath NW3 with the White Horse public house on the right. Location found by Simon James.

The White Horse is still going strong. Keep going down Fleet Road and we're in Smashing Time territory. SJ

Main Road, Pinewood Studios Circa 1960

Disguised as a WPC, Nanette Parry (Hattie Jacques) helps Pinkerton away from the latest heist at an illegal gambling party. Jules Ballantyne dispelled various theories and settled on Main Road, Pinewood Studio for this location. (RL)
