Having been informed by the Foreign Office of Fountain bring involved with drugs and other criminal offences, Tony Seymore arrives in Oxford to investigate. Facing west on New College Lane with Hertford Bridge spanning the roadway. The area appears in 'Who Killed Lamb' and ‘Sebastian'.

Oxford has made efforts to discourage cars which is evident in Nick Boorman's shot.

After parking up, Tony Seymore (Alexander Davion) makes his way towards Lancaster College. Looking through the gates of Worcester College towards Beaumont Street at the junction with Walton Street and Worcester Street.

Penelope Goodrich and Bob Kirby accompany Seymore to Greece. Manuel Gurtner recognised the, later, west wing and Control Tower of Ellinikon International Airport, the international airport of Athens until 2001, which can also be seen in 'The High Bright Sun'.

The three arrive in Athens before Seymore heads to meet with his contact, the British Military Attache. Manuel Gurtner ponders that, presumably, the camera was positioned onto the highest point by the right side corner of the Panathenaic Stadium, built for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Now located in the Pangrati district, with the greenery of the twin pine-covered Ardettos hill in the bottom left. Looking towards the Acropolis hill, the intersection of Ardittou Street and Vasilissis Olgas Avenue can be seen, with the 35-acre Zappeion Gardens to the right.

Tony Seymore enters the building where Major Longbow is based. This is not in Athens, advises Manuel Gurtner, because here we see the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. Originally erected in 1878 as a Residence for the British Governor, the building was burned down in 1931. The current Government House was completed in 1937, renamed in Presidential Palace in 1960.

Longbow tells Seymore of Fountain's involvement with Chriseis Konstantanini (Imogen Hassall). Following extensive research, Manuel Gurtner discovered that this scene was filmed at the then Christofides family estate, known for the large and unusual pool site. Situated west of Kyrenia (Girne) directly on the coast near Snake Island (Yilan Adasi), the Kyrenia mountain range can be seen in the distance. According to a newspaper article by Marina Christofides for the Cyprus Mail, since the invasion of Northern Cyprus by Turkish troops in 1974, the property was used by Rauf Denktash, former leader of the Turkish minority and later President of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, while the surrounding countryside is still a restricted military area today.

On Mýkonos, Police arrive after an Old Woman discovers the body of her Daughter.

From the hotel's balcony, Bob spots the Men and the Old Woman. Kyrenia is known in Turkish as Girne.

As Penelope crosses the bridge leading to the castle, the four Men quicken their pace until they are running after her. The bridge passes over Küpdemir Sokak.

Bob ascends the steps leading to the bridge. The steps begin near the junction of 20 Temmuz Kordonboyu Caddesi and Küpdemir Sokak.

The young woman is chased into the castle. Girne Kalesi, various parts of which also feature in 'Ghost in the Noonday Sun' and 'Percy's Progress' along with views of the Kyrenia Old Harbour.

Driven on by the Old Woman, the men gain on Penelope.

Past improprieties involving Fountain are recalled. Salamis was once the capital of Cyprus dating from 1100 BC.

A Policeman tells the Major about Penelope and Bob being pursued and asks that they accompany him to the Police Station.

Following a darkened scene in which an unconscious Fountain is carried away, Seymore contacts Colonel Stavros of Greek Intelligence. Manuel Gurtner advises that this is looking across the intersection near the Hellenic Parliament towards the corner of Vasiléos Georgíou Prótou Street and Panepistimiou Street. The Hotel Grande Bretagne can be recognised, directly followed by the King George Hotel and the Athens Plaza Hotel. The greenery on the left side belongs to Syntagma Square.

Seymore asks the Colonel to help find Fountain. Geoff Dodd identifies this as 21 Kensington Palace Gardens, London W8, the Lebanese Embassy. (RL)

At the airfield, Colonel Stavros (David Lodge) places his helicopter at Seymore's disposal.

Seymore, Longbow and Penelope head for the island of Hydra where Richard Fountain has been taken into the care of Monks. Manuel tells us that this is not really on Hydra, but in fact still in Northern Cyprus, at the northern side of the Pentadaktylos mountain range. Here we see the bell tower of the Monastery of St. John Chrysostomos, situated close to the village Koutsovendis (Güngör), just three kilometres south of Buffavento Castle, which stands between St. Hilarion Castle to the west and Kantara Castle to the east.

Fountain is carried through the monastery accompanied by Chriseis. The inner courtyard of Agios Ioannis Chrysostomos located by Manuel Gurtner which actually consisting of two churches. Since the Turkish occupation in 1974 the monastery has not seen any visitors, because located in a Military restricted area and now used as a barrack!

Chriseis, her associates and the Monks look up as the helicopter approaches. The south church is partially visible behind them advises Manuel. Originally founded in the late 11th century and completely dilapidated at the end of the 19th century, the building collapsed and was rebuilt in 1891. Since then it has served as the main church building, called Katholikon.

The Colonel's helicopter flies over the monastery. Manuel Gurtner explains that the dome belongs to the north church, built in the early 12th century and called Parekklesion of the Holy Trinity.

Seymour suggests that Richard is involved in a scandal and that the Greek authorities want him out of the country. The inner court yard of the monastery with the arcade building just opposite to the two churches identified by Manuel.

I?ánn?s (Theo Moreos), the Mayor tells Seymore that Richard was seen being taken to the monastery.

At the monastery, the Abbot (Nick Pandelides) discloses that Richard was brought there to be cured but Chriseis merely wants him to be kept alive. Found by Manuel, this is just around the corner by the bell tower of the Katholikon, while the arcade building is visible in the background.

The Abbot comforts Penelope when she begins to faint at the table.

Penelope is helped to one on the monk's cells after she hallucinates about Richard's death. Manuel Gurtner identifies this as looking north on the upper floor of the arcade building, situated along the east side of Agios Ioannis Chrysostomos.

The group arrive at an old fort where they believe Richard is being held captive. Manuel's research led him to find this view up towards Kantara Castle, the furthest east of the Crusader castles in the Kyrenia mountains of Northern Cyprus.

From beneath a tree, Chriseis sees Longbow drive from the fort.

Back in the town, the Major takes Penelope to the harbour.

On the quayside Penelope is assured that Richard will be fine and that he will meet her in England.

Longbow wishes Penelope "Bon voyage" as he sees her onto the ferry bound for Athens.

The Major returns to the Mayor's house.

Chriseis watches as Major Longbow knocks at the door.

When I?ánn?s opens the door, Longbow finds Colonel Stavros waiting inside.

At the fort, Seymore and Bob Kirby wait for the Major to return.

The Abbot helps Longbow mount a donkey to make the journey back to the fort.

Chriseis follows before causing a rockfall which knocks Longbow from the mountainside.

Seymore and Kirby run from the fort when they hear the Major's cry for help.

The shot pans with the pair as they race to help.

As Chriseis makes her way to Richard, Seymore and Kirby are unable to save the Major.

Back in England, a memorial service is held for Major Longbow. St. Marylebone Parish Church on Marylebone Road, London NW1.

After researching Vampirism, Seymore meets with Fountain and Kirby in Oxford.

With Fountain's life returning to normality, Dr. Goodrich outlines his plans for his protege at a garden party.

The subject of Fountain's engagement to his daughter Penelope is broached by Dr. Walter Goodrich (Peter Cushing).

Seymore heads back to Oxford after receiving word of the pressures being placed on Fountain. This is the A40, now the slip road from the M40, with the since removed railway bridge that carried the line between Thame and Oxford.

The Jensen arrives at the riverside where Bob Kirby is canoeing. Facing The Nag's Head public house between Abingdon and Burford Bridges just outside Abingdon in Oxfordshire.

Boat hire continues but there is a café here now on Nag's Head Island. SJ

This is a little bit of a guess but this appeared to be only the stretch of river wide enough to match the original and the treeline is reasonably reassuring. This is east of Nag's Head Island. SJ

After a speech at the College's Quincentenary Dinner that shocks his audience, Richard flees with Penelope. Looking into the main quad at Worcester College.
