If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.
We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

The film opens with a piece of newsreel footage assembled from 1945 newsreel (Polygoon-Profilti) and more modern footage aged to match. The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vison (www.beeldengeluid.nl) has the original pieces of newsreel and detailed descriptions that identify the locations. This shot is from original newsreel, showing Queen Wilhelmina's car leaving Gilze-Rijen airfield on 1st May 1945, on the way to Breda-Anneville.
- Capture 2
- 27 Sep 2020
Another shot from 1945. The queen arrives in The Hague. This is the railway viaduct at Laan van Nieuw-Oostindie in Voorburg. The viaduct appears to have been reconstructed since 1945.

Frank van den Berg cannot resist capturing a shot for us if he is nearby. There is nothing recognisable in the year 2020 but this is the location in Voorburg now. (RL)
- Capture 3
- 04 Aug 2020
Original newsreel again. The Queen's car arrives outside the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.

This is actually the place where the Dutch King Willem Alexander lives but Frank was not invited in. (RL)
- Capture 4
- 'Now' required
This is shot for the film. Outside the Noordeinde palace, Erik Lanshof (Rutger Hauer) salutes as Wilhelmina (Andrea Domburg) emerges from her car.
- Capture 5

Back to the original newsreel. A view southeast along Noordeinde from Paleisstraat.

Frank found that it was not that crowded anymore. (RL)
- Capture 6

Guus Lejeune (Jeroen Krabbe) arrives at the house where Erik Lanshof is staying. Iepenlaan, Wassenaar.

Frank provides this shot for us and tells us that at the back can be seen the entrance of house number 6. He arrives at Soldaat van Oranje’s house. In reality the Soldaat van Oranje’s house is in Wassenaar on Rapenburg and is now a student home. (RL)
- Capture 7
- 17 Mar 2020
On the eve of war, the students are playing tennis. Marlots Tennis Club in Waalsdorperlaan, Wassenaar.

Frank confirms the location and adds that it is nowadays situated in the heavily guarded area next of the US Ambassy. This is the only photo he could take. The club is closed for outsiders and entrance only in white tennis clothing that he did have to hand. (RL)
- Capture 8

Traffic stops and people run for cover as air-raid sirens sound. Alexanderstraat, The Hague.
- Capture 9
- 04 Aug 2020
Unaware of the air-raid warning, Erik and Guus are driving along Alexanderstraat.

Frank provides the comparative shot together with customary historical background whenever pertinent. From the Alexanderstraat we are looking at plein 1813. On the square (an oval roundabout) stands a monument commemorating the victory over Napoleon, the end of the French era in the Netherlands. It stands for the independence and the foundation in 1813 of the Sovereign Principality of the United Netherlands and that is the predecessor of the United Kingdom of Netherlands and the present Kingdom of the Netherlands. (RL)
- Capture 10
- 04 Aug 2020
Opposite view. People try to warn the two motorcyclists.

This is indeed the Alexanderstraat, Frank confirms, and we are looking to the Javastraat. The building on the right is the embassy of Poland these days. (RL)

Two German planes drop bombs. This is the Willem III barracks in Amersfoort. At the time of filming the barracks was scheduled for demolition, so the film makers were able to make the damage look convincing. According to Wikipedia.nl, later interior shots also used this location. The barracks was demolished in 1978 and the site was redeveloped.

This is, according a man Frank van den Berg spoke to at the location, where the Prins Willem III Kazerne in Amersfoort used to be. Nothing to recognise anymore. (RL)
- Capture 12
- 12 Jan 2017
Opposite view, the riding school building. Erik and Guus seek to enlist as volunteers, but are initially suspected of being Germans.
Not quite a now shot, but this photo of the riding school building taken in 1978 confirms the identity. Copyright Archief Eemland (original at http://www.archiefeemland.nl/collectie/fotos//detail?id=63d5d463-130e-8980-d12a-02ddfe2cdf3a).

Erik returns home. Unknown location, but almost certainly somewhere on Konijnenlaan, Wassenaar, yes, says Frank, this is the beginning of Konijnenlaan close to the junction of Nachtegaallaan, Wassenaar. Here, he tells us we see Rutger Hauer who plays the role of Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema (Soldaat van Oranje). (RL)

A clear view from Frank. (RL)
- Capture 14
- 17 Mar 2020
On the way, he encounters a group of German paratroopers. Konijnenlaan, at the junction with Nachtegaallaan.

This is indeed the junction of Konijnenlaan and Nachtegaallaan and it is as Frank remarks, "still under construction". (RL)

Frank provides this view on the road from Amerongen to Wijk bij Duurstee, the Lekdijk, over 40 years later. (RL)
- Capture 16
- 24 May 2020
They pause at a cafe. Herberg Den Rooden Leeuw in Drostestraat.

Frank confirms that on the right we have Herberg Den Rooden Leeuw (The red lion) and not many things changed over the years. The only thing is that it seems that the trees have moved by time.
- Capture 17
- 'Now' required
Another unit is flagged down by a civilian. I'm pretty sure this is Lekdijk, south-west of Amerongen, with the river Nederrijn in the background.
- Capture 18
- 24 Apr 2020
Erik, Guus and Jan Weinberg (Huub Rooimans) are at the beach discussing plans to escape to England. Alex (Derek de Lint) arrives. Hotel Huis ter Duin, Noordwijk.

Considerably more concrete in this photo from Frank. Same hotel can be seen in the movie 'Secret Ceremony'. (RL)
- Capture 19
- 24 Apr 2020
Their escape plans falter when their stash of fuel explodes, ignited by a carelessly discarded match. Opposite view to svo18.

A little more peace and quiet when Frank visited. No bombs, no fire, just sand, the sea and the wind. And hopefully, no COVID-19 either. (RL)

Outside Guus and Jan's lodgings, two members of the NSB are selling nazi literature. Nonnebrug, Leiden.

This photo Frank tells us he took from the Nonnenbrug (Nunsbridge), Leiden. The first bridge was made in 1426 for the nuns who lived in a monastery located on Rapenburg, Leiden. This bridge has been rebuild several times during history. (RL)
- Capture 25
- 14 Apr 2020
The two harrass a Jewish man and throw his barrow into the canal.

Here, Frank tells us, we actually see the Nonnenbrug (Nunsbridge) in Leiden, The Netherlands. On the left of the photo can be seen one of the oldest buildings of Leiden University, the Academiegebouw, built in 1516 and really the center of Leiden. Nowadays this building is only used for ceremonies and other official happenings. (RL)
- Capture 26
- 14 Apr 2020
Jan has intervened and attacked the NSBers. Erik hurriedly pulls him away. Opposite view from svo24, looking toward the university building.

In front of Frank is the Nonnenbrug and on the right is the Academiegebouw. (RL)
- Capture 27
- 17 Apr 2020
Guus arrives at the house where he has arranged to meet members of the resistance. Several online sources suggest that this sequence was shot on Tjeukemeer, but in fact this is the South West corner of De Flussen, Friesland, close to the village of Oudega.

Frank had to extract this shot from one taken at a wider angle as he was unable to get any closer because it is private property. The property is located at Algemiene Wei in Oudega Gaast Sleat and the big lake behind it is called Fluessen. Daniel van der Ree adds that the house is at Number 1 on Algemiene Wei.
- Capture 28
- 17 Apr 2020
An RAF plane arrives to pick up Robby and Jan and take them to England. De Fluezen, looking approximately southeast. The buildings in the background are probably in Oudega.

Here we see Fluessen lake l. This photo by Frank of Fluessen has been taken from public ground and as a result shows a different angle to the screen capture that was able to use public ground. (RL)
- Capture 29

- Capture 35
- 15 Apr 2020
Erik has been released, but Dutch security man Breitner (Rijk de Gooier) watches outside the lodgings in Rapenburg, Leiden.

Frank provides this photo together with his customary additional information. On the other side of the canal on the corner left is the house in the movie where Soldaat van Oranje lived. In reality Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema did live here for a while. There is a scene in the movie where you see Rutger Hauer hanging out of the balcony. That was in this house. (RL)
- Capture 36
- 14 Apr 2020
Whilst Breitner is distracted, Erik slips away. He climbs over a wall into a passage (Pieter Gerrits Speckhof) leading into Pieterskerkhof, Leiden.

Frank provides this shot of the small passage where it is obvious that green has taken over through the years. In the background you can see the tower of the Leiden City Hall. (RL)

Erik, Esther and Jacques ten Brinck (Dolf de Vries) leave the university. In the background, unnoticed, Breitner is watching. Rapenburg, Leiden.

Frank couldn’t go through the gate because the University was closed because of the virus epidemic. The white house on the left (Rapenburg 48) is called Huys van Leyden owned by the family van Leyden van Leeuwen and was constructed in 1642. (RL)

This is the wharf east of Radiostraat, looking approximately northwest. Shots facing the ship show the now-demolished chimney of the power station in Galileistraat.

When Frank van den Berg did visit this location he found out that the building had recently been torn down. An elderly port worker brought Frank to this location and he said that this was the location where this building stood. We from ReelStreets say: ‘Dank u wel meneer!’. (RL)

Guus is back on Dutch soil, disguised as a party guest. Hotel Huis ter Duin, Noordwijk.

This is apparently NOT a commercial for some car company. It just stood there blocking Frank's view. For most of us it would have been a white van! The only remaining part is the entrance of the hotel. The rest is reconstructed. And this is not the main entrance of Huis ter Duin anymore but some entrance on the side. (RL)
