Adventures of Jane, The

During the titles, Christabel Leighton-Porter, as herself, arrives at the home of "Jane" creator Norman Pett to model for the comic strip. While drawing the Daily Mirror strip, Norman Pett lived in Crawley now in West Sussex.

The last night of Jane's stage show at the Gaiety Theatre before the show moves to Brighton. The Gaiety Cinema, at the junction of Hollingdean Road and Lewes Road in Brighton, Sussex.

The Gaiety Cinema, along with some adjoining buildings on Hollingdean Road, were demolished in 1983 for road widening. The pub on Lewes Road was demolished in 2014 and the Vogue Studios, student accommodation block, is now on the site.

Head of a diamond smuggling gang, Mr Sneyed (Sidney Benson) arrives at the theatre with a 'gift' for Jane. The Gaiety Cinema, Brighton, now in East Sussex.

My return visit to the now completed Vogue Studios. Named after the Vogue Gyratory system, which in turn was named after the Vogue Cinema- the Gaiety, renamed Vogue from 1971 to 1979.

Later that day, Jane's friend Tom arrives at the theatre to pay her a visit. The billboard identifies this as The Hippodrome. There is a Hippodrome in Brighton but I can't find a match for this shot.

Jane and Tom arrive at the Tudor Close Hotel, Dean Court Road, Rottingdean, Sussex. Many stars of stage and screen were known to have stayed there.

During the 1950's Tudor Close was converted into twenty-nine flats.

After Jane accepts an invitation from Captain Cleaver for a trip on his yacht, Tom and Cleaver's girlfriend, Ruby (Sonya O'Shea), spot them from the quay side. Riverside, Shoreham Harbour, Southwick in Sussex. The harbour can also be seen in 'Dangerous Voyage', 'Ghost Ship' and 'Rogue's Yarn'.

After the yacht suffers from engine failure, Captain Cleaver and Jane are rescued by the Newhaven To Dieppe ferry. Newhaven Harbour, Newhaven in Sussex.

Newhaven Harbour (boat station) was renamed Newhaven Marine in 1984, closed to passenger trains in 2006 and demolished in May 2017.

Jane arrives back at the Tudor Close Hotel.

Now, with more houses and more cars.

The gang kidnap Jane without knowing she has given the bracelet to Ruby. Mill Road leading onto London Road, Brighton in Sussex.

The railway bridge was modified as high sided vehicles would often get stuck under the arch.

Jane is taken to an old cottage by a mill on the downs. Mill Road in Patcham, Sussex.

From this position the tips of the sails can just be seen above the trees.

Jane is held at the cottage by the gang. Mill Cottage and Patcham Mill, Mill Road, Patcham now in East Sussex.

The police arrive at the cottage, but the gang has already left with Jane. Mill Road, Patcham.

The mill was converted for residential use in 1963.

The chase ends when the gang members and Mr Sneyed collide on the narrow road. Unknown location but most likely north of Brighton.

The comic crime caper has its conclusion at the police station. Southwick Police Station, Whiterock Place, Southwick in Sussex, identified by Chris Fippard who adds, "The building has long since been demolished, and probably fell out of use when the new station was built at Ham Road, Shoreham-by-Sea, in the 1960s, replacing that in nearby Tarmount Lane, which had also had its fair share of film coverage!"
