Abominable Dr. Phibes, The

In a 1926 Rolls-Royce saloon, Vulnavia returns to Maldine Square after releasing vampire bats into the bedroom of Dr. Dunwoody. Caldecote Towers at Immanuel College on Elstree Road in Bushey, Hertfordshire.

Vulnavia rushes up the steps of the imposing mansion belonging to Dr. Anton Phibes. The grade II listed Caldecote Towers also features in 'Dr. Phibes Rises Again', ‘Subterfuge’, 'Identity Unknown', ‘High Road to China’ and ‘So Evil, So Young'.

The following morning, Inspector Harry Trout and Sergeant Tom Schenley begin their murder investigation at Dr. Dunwoody’s house. 17 Duchess Mews, London W1, discovered by Steve Randall. The house was also used as John Steed's apartment in the 1960s TV Series The Avengers.

Linking the murders to Phibes, Sergeant Schenley races to the London Aeroplane Club to prevent a further killing. Geoff Dodd identifies the location as Little Common, Stanmore looking towards Wood Lane with Stanmore Hall in the background adding that there has been some development of the east wing so the view now is slightly different. Closer views of the hall are seen in 'Nothing But the Night', 'Murder by Decree' and 'Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed'.

Dr. Kitaj (Peter Gilmore) arrives at the club to fly his De Havilland Hornet Moth. The airfield at Panshangar between the outer edge of Hertford and Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire.
