Further background information to the film ‘Some People’
Adrian Henry who used to buy parts for his bicycle from ‘Popes’ Bike shop (Capture 74) in the 1960’s tells us:
“I have noticed that where the lads are building a canoe for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

they must have been in the building opposite the old FRY’S Chocolate Factory in Keynsham, although it was later called Cadbury’s, because in a later shot

‘RY’S can be seen above Ray Brook’s Head.
There were a lot of extras in the film and most, if not all, were the real people themselves.
The man at the beginning of the film who is looking into a shop window at the rotating chickens.

He was a newspaper seller who always had his pitch outside the Bristol Hippodrome. We always found him amusing because he use to cry out ‘FINAH ENOH POST’ ‘FINAH ENOH POST’ in which we translated as being ‘Final Evening Post’ so he was trying to get rid of his remaining papers for the day. What a character he was.
And then there was ‘George’, another true character, who had his own Bookshop in Christmas Steps.

He was the actual owner of that shop, and it always smelt a bit musty because of the old books he sold.”
The Clothing Store that Ray Brooks and Annika Wills went into……. and Annika was trying on several dresses was C&A (The initials are engraved on the doors as they enter the shop)…….. and was one of the many shops that have now sadly vanished into history at Broadmead Bristol.
