Following an afternoon of love making in her studio, Martin Lynch-Gibbon (Ian Holm) leaves his mistress Georgie Hands and gets into his Alvis TD 21 Drophead Coupe. Outside the London Rowing Club’s boat house on Putney Embankment in SW15.

Martin walks towards the house where he later learns that Antonia is in love with his friend, psychiatrist Palmer Anderson. Blomfield Road in Maida Vale.

Bearing gifts in the form of a case of wine, Martin heads for the country home of his brother Alexander and his wife Rosemary. Jules Ballantyne has found this to be Maple Croft, Crazies Hill, off Highfield Lane, Wargrave in Reading, Berkshire. (RL)

During a break from teaching, Georgie Hands (Jennie Linden) speaks with Martin about the situation. Looking out towards the Albert Memorial from the Royal College of Art on Kensington Gore in South Kensington SW7.

Palmer and Antonia summon Martin to the Health Farm that they are staying at. Dean Stubbs identifies this as Elvetham Hall in Hartney Witney, Hampshire.

On the rear lawn of the Health Farm, Martin approaches the pair to learn that Honor has told them about Georgie. Elvetham Hall near Hook in Hampshire located by Dean Stubbs.

Looking for items to adorn the apartment that she and Palmer have found for Martin, Antonia Lynch-Gibbon (Lee Remick) leaves a furniture and art shop. RL says circa 19 South Audley Street, London W1 looking across to South Street.

Bumping into her brother in law Alexander Lynch-Gibbon (Clive Revill) outside, the two exchange pleasantries. RL places this as South Audley Street, London W1 which is seen in a number of productions including ‘Follow Me’, ‘Bullseye!’, ‘Morgan, a Suitable Case for Treatment’, ‘Stage Fright’, ‘The Grass is Greener’, ‘You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger’, ‘A Touch of the Sun’ and ‘Keep It Clean’.

The majolica elephant in the window is still there as Thomas Goode and Co. has been here since 1845. SJ

Having argued with Georgie at their last meeting, Martin returns to her studio. Facing north-west on Putney Embankment with the floodlights of Craven Cottage across the Thames in the right distance. The location also features in ‘Robbery’, ‘The Big Sleep’ and ‘The Sandwich Man’.

Climbing the steps to Georgie’s studio, Martin finds her and his brother Alexander drinking coffee together. The London Rowing Club’s boathouse on Putney Embankment SE15 with the rear of houses on Bendemeer Road in the background.

On New Year's Eve, Martin carries a case of wine to Palmer’s house where he finds him in bed with Antonia. Connaught Place in Bayswater.

At the lecturers house, no one answers the doorbell.

Making his way to the back of the property, Martin lets himself in and discovers Palmer in bed with his sister.

Having listened to Palmer's explanation, Martin returns to his empty apartment . . . . North Gate, Prince Albert Road NW1. (SJ)

Reconciled with his wife, Martin opens the door of a cab for Palmer Anderson (Richard Attenborough) while his belongings are reloaded into a removals van for conveyance home. North Gate, Prince Albert Road in NW1. (SJ)

In a wharf alongside the Thames, Alexander and Georgie search for a suitable block of stone together. Alan Bourke locates this as the Marble and Granite Works at Carrara and Willowbank Wharves off Ranelagh Gardens in Putney SW6, looking across the Thames towards the buildings of A.G. Spalding and Deans Blinds on Deodar Road. The south end of Putney Bridge is just visible on the right.

Leaving Palmer sitting beside Georgie's hospital bed, Martin tells Honor that he loves her whilst giving her a lift home. David Ainsworth identifies this view as facing the Half Moon Hotel from the BP petrol station on Lower Richmond Road in Putney SW15.

Returning to the location, David captured the scene from what is now the Sainsbury's Local forecourt.

After Antonia discloses that she is in love with Alexander, her new suitor arrives. Blomfield Road with Westbourne Terrace Road and the bridge over the Regent's Canal in the left background. The location is also seen in 'The Blue Lamp', 'The Monster of Highgate Ponds', 'Georgie Girl', 'Allez France!', 'Blue Ice', 'The End of the Affair', 'Interlude' and others.
