Sweety Barrett (Brendan Gleeson) waits in line for his wages before circus owner Rissolli (Brendan O'Carroll) dismisses him because of poor takings. Pat Cleary found the hill at the top of Fishers Lane overlooking Enniskerry village in County Wicklow.

Donning his hiking books, Pat visited the field for this view facing east towards Bray and Greystones on the coast. "Luckily, no cows were in possession of this field at the time of my visit."

Waking from a night sleeping amongst sheep, the slow-witted Sweety brushes his teeth.

Getting a lift from poitín runner Flick Hennessy, Sweety is dropped off at a hostel in the coastal village of Dockery.

The following morning, Sweety heads to the Harbour Bar where Flick has promised him work. Balbriggan Harbour in Balbriggan, Fingal.

Pat Cleary explains that a €15m refurbishment of this whole area is well under way with the initial works being at the land side of the railway viaduct. The seagulls squawking was non-stop and sometimes belligerent during his visit.

The now white lighthouse is lit up by the morning sun in Pat Cleary's view. Hopefully, the ugly boarded-up wreck will be removed during improvement works.

Flick Hennessy (Tony Rohr) watches as, with the strength of a bull, Sweety easily lifts beams and cable drums to clear a way into a shed. The harbour arm at Balbriggan.

Anne King (Lynda Steadman) and her son Conor (Dylan Murphy) make their way home from the harbour. High Street in Balbriggan with Quay Street to the extreme left and the viaduct carrying the railway between Balbriggan and Skerries in the distance.

Pat Cleary found no real change here except works taking place in the former car park.

Detective Mannix Bone (Liam Cunningham) arrives at the police station where he learns that Leo King is being released from prison on parole. Looking along Harbour Road towards Balbriggan Harbour.

Pat found that only a ground level view is now possible. Many boats but no water.

Pat Cleary got this shot just in time before a sudden sea mist began rolling in. The railway station in the background has been extensively renovated and improved.

Borrowing £4,000 from Flick to buy a share in a taxi plate, Leo drives home after picking Conor up from school. The corner of Sitric Road and Sitric Place in Stoneybatter, Dublin 7. The shop can be seen in 'The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne'.

That night Conor runs into the street when he sees his father's taxi being taken.

The six year old heads into a subway running under the railway line. The subway runs beneath the railway from Convent Lane to the north of Balbriggan station.

A local informed Pat Cleary that there were never steps at the other end which runs directly to the beach area so they were either a constructed for filming or added in post production.

As his father leaves the house, Conor emerges on the other side of the tracks. The exit from the subway onto Balbriggan Beach.

Conor runs down a flight of steps as Leo begins to catch up.

As he follows his son down the steps, Leo sees the taxi strike Conor before it drives away. Facing south-west towards Quay Street from Harbour Road, Balbriggan.

Conor's funeral takes place before Leo is arrested after being framed by the Inspector. This is St. Peter's church in Balrothery, Fingal.

The church is about a mile and a half from Balbriggan along the R132 advises Pat Cleary who took this shot in a different season with the church barely visible.

A resident told Pat Cleary that they would like similar action taken with the boarded-up wreck to the right!
