Mortelle Randonée (aka Deadly Run)

Somewhere in the better district of Brussels, Beauvoir observes the client's home, whose offspring Paul Hugo (Philippe Lelièvre) will soon be leaving for a rendezvous with Catherine, alias Lucie Brentano, a student from Paris. Chris Gehret advises that the Porsche 911 is standing in front of 230 Avenue Molière in Brussels, Belgium. 

On the way to Catherine, and carrying a lot of money in a paper bag, Paul leaves his 1971 Porsche back at Osseghem Park, while, in the background, Beauvoir waits in his 1975 Toyota Corolla to follow him later.

Michel Serrault, as the private eye, sees Catherine for the first time when she meets Paul at the amusement park near the Atomium, a landmark building in Brussels, originally constructed for the 1958 World's Fair.

The Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History at Parc du Cinquantenaire stands in for the fictitious Institut Shakespeare. After she has killed Paul during the night before, Catherine enters the impressive building as student Lucie Brentano and leaves later as fashion model Eve Granger.

The Parisian High society celebrates the betrothal of Michel De Meyerganz (Patrick Bouchitey) to Catherine alias Dorothée Ortiz on the Côte d'Azur. Filmed in the splendid gardens of Villa Île-de-France, built between 1905 and 1912 at Cap Ferrat by Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild.

In hot pursuit of Catherine, Beauvoir travels by plane from Nice to Baden-Baden, but has informed his boss Madame Schmidt-Boulanger (Geneviève Page) by phone that he is in Marrakech right now. We see one of the music pavilions by the Klosterwiese along the Lichtentaler Allee in the southern outskirts of the world-famous spa town, located in the state Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.

Still at Baden-Baden and it seems that the lawn behind the Brenner's Park Hotel is notably populated with swimsuit beauties wearing high heels. The luxury hotel also appears in 'The Romantic English Woman'.

After two more murders and now with blonde hair, Catherine Leiris (Isabelle Adjani) waits at the Brussels South Station buffet for the "Italia Express" to depart and prevents blind Ralph Forbes (Sami Frey) from being cheated by the waiter when paying. In fact, this is shot in the Art Nouveau style restaurant "Le Falstaff", since 1903 the most known brasserie in the city.

The night train bound for Rome with Catherine, Forbes and Beauvoir on board crosses Switzerland. Indeed Switzerland because of the catenary type, but obviously stock footage from the mid-1960s with a SBB locomotive Ae 4/7 type pulling the express train across the, so far, unidentified landscape.

At the end of the long journey through five countries, the night train reaches the railway terminus Roma Termini and passed by the tall main signal box, located close to the Santa Bibiana church at the corner of Via Giovanni Giolitti and Via di Santa Bibiana.

Catherine gets out of the CIWL sleeping car Y 3841 together with Forbes and they leave the main station on the left side, where the car of the wealthy Swiss architect is already waiting. The Bentley Mk. VI is parked opposite to the, then, Pizzeria Snack bar at Via Giovanni Giolitti, 65, nowadays a branch of McDonald's.

Beauvoir can no longer follow them and therefore visits Signora Comolli (Franca Tamantini), who runs Madame Schmidt-Boulanger's branch in Rome. She tells him that Forbes owns a large seaside villa.

The Private detective approaches Forbes' mansion from the seaside. In reality we are back on the French Riviera, looking towards Villa Cypris with the notable cloister gallery in the foreground, built in 1904 in Neo-Byzantine style and located at Cap Martin.

Back in Rome, Forbes has an art gallery let set up for Catherine. On his way to watch to her, Beauvoir almost has an accident with a FIAT 418 type city bus when he suddenly uses the crosswalk at the Largo Magnanapoli junction after the 1967 Alfa Romeo GT 1300 has passed. And yes, without the clue by the Line 70 of the then ATAC (Azienda Tramvie e Autobus del Comune) this location would not have be identified so quickly.

The couple discuss plans in front of the upcoming art gallery, named after one of Catherine's many aliases and located at the ground floor of Palazzo Antonelli at Via Quattro Novembre, 157.

This is in the middle of the planted Largo Magnanapoli below the slopes of the Quirinal Hill, where Guy Marchand as "the pale man" orders the "lady in Gray" (Stéphane Audran) to follow him immediately, so that Catherine will not discover them. In the right distance the entrance to the church San Sisto Nuovo can be recognized, known for the unusual stairway as a model for the famous "Spanish Steps".

Still in the center of the Magnanapoli square, just after blind Forbes - with the "help" of jealous Beauvoir - ran on the crosswalk right in front of the city bus and will die because of the terrible crash. In the background the staircases of the Chiesa di Santa Caterina da Siena as the main church of the Military Ordinariate in Italy is visible, while the entrance to the crypt, dedicated to the fallen Roman soldiers of the two world wars, stands open.

Because of Forbes' sudden death, Catherine is forced to leave Italy. In her 1980 VW Golf Cabriolet she reaches the French border at Menton, still trailed by Beauvoir. This location also appears in 'The Day of the Jackal' and 'The Romantic English Woman'.

Later on the road through the Alpes-Maritimes, Catherine picks up the teen hitchhiker Betty. On the way to Biarritz "the pale man" together with the "lady in Gray" steals Beauvoir's 1979 Renault 5 from a truck parking at the Route de la Corniche, located right above the cliffs of the Golfe de Gascogne between Hendaye and Saint-Jean-de-Lutz.

Beauvoir also reaches Biarritz as a hitchhiker by a Pegaso 1066 lorry, here seen on Boulevard du Général de Gaulle along the storm-lashed Atlantic coast, passing the Résidence Bellevue Plage hotel as a landmark of the waterfront.

"Pension Les Hortensias", where "the pale man" and the "lady in Gray" forge a plan to blackmail Catherine for money. Christian Gehret identifies this as 14 Rue des Plaqueminiers in Hendaye, adding that the building that still exists but the facade has since changed with the small canopy giving way to a balcony.

On the other hand, Catherine and Betty (Dominique Frot) stayed in the luxurious "Hotel Princesse Eugénie", in fact Hôtel Du Palais Biarritz. We see the court to the entrance of the best hotel in town, originally built as the imperial summer residence of Napoléon III and Princess Eugénie de Montijo.

Neither "the pale man" nor the "lady in Gray" survive the fake handover of money at the hotel "Pension Les Hortensias". Otherwise Beauvoir has his car back again and follows Catherine and Betty on Boulevard du Maréchal Leclerc towards the North. In the background the Biarritz lighthouse can be recognized, built in 1834 and located onto Cape Hainsart.

On the way across the country, Catherine and Betty specialise in robbing supermarkets and bank branches. But the province's jewelry stores are not spared either, so this sequence was shot in the Yvelines department at the rural town of Montfort-l'Amaury.

During a bank robbery, Betty is killed in a shootout, while Catherine escapes after firing at a policeman. Later and with the help of Beauvoir, she breaks through the roadblock of the Dutch police on the Belgian border and afterwards robs the money from a motel. Shot in the "Clermotel" at 60, Rue des Buttes in the municipality of Agnetz, Oise department.

Catherine reaches the northern French or Belgian coal districts, still trailed by Beauvoir. Identified by Christian Gehret, this is Monceau Fontaine No. 18 mine which was located at Marchienne-au-Pont in Charleroi, Belgium. Christian adds that "The mine ceased operations in 1978 and most of the buildings, especially the winding towers, no longer exist today. However, you can still see the last remaining buildings of the mine on Google Earth. The complex was located between the Charleroi-Bruxelles Canal and Rue de la Providence, now a large wasteland. The cars in the capture are most likely moving along "Rue des Reunis", close to the Total Energies "Centrale électrique."

The cars cross a large canal close to a power plant. Verbrande Brug taking Eppegemsesteenweg over the Brussels to Antwerp canal in Grimbergen, Flemish Brabant, Belgium located after extensive research by Christian Gehret.

As "ennemi public" on the run from the police, Catherine initially entrenches herself in a lonely hotel right on the canal. Christian Gehret identifies the hotel as standing at 6 Korporaal Leon Tresgnieplein in Grimbergen, Flemish Brabant adding that mush of the building has since been demolished.

Behind the "Hotel du Canal" Catherine strolls along the canal as a large barge approaches. Alongside the Brussels to Scheldt Maritime Canal on Westvaartdijk in Grimbergen with the Europabrug in the distance found by Christian Gehret.

After leaving the Striptease club, "The Eye" follows Catherine unnoticed through the Red Light district of the presently unknown city.

Hired as waitress in the "Miami" fast food restaurant, Catherine takes a room in the shabby "Hotel du Globe".

Hunted by the police, Catherine plunges to death in her 1977 Citröen GS. Brussels' Parking 58 building, located between Place Sainte-Catherine and Place De Brouckère, was especially built in 1958 for the World Expo, but was closed in 2017 and later torn down.
