Naakt Over De Schutting

Like many other films that were shot in Amsterdam (Puppet on a Chain, Amsterdamned) the opening scene is a helicopter flight above the city. For the orientation; On top of the first letter 'A' from 'Naakt' ican be seen Hotel Europe in the nieuwe doelenstraat.

We see Rick (Rijk de Gooyer) sitting on the roof of his house waiting for his pigeons to come back. This is the roof of Play Inn at the Prins Hendrikkade 18 and the other side of that building is at Nieuwendijk 37.

Rick who runs a pinball arcade has a bet on a pinball machine as to who has the highest score. When Frank did visit this location he noticed that this shot was NOT taken from the location Nieuwendijk 37 but from Nieuwendijk 41-43. Because of the angle of the house in the background (number 42) it is impossible that this shot came from Play Inn. Needless to say, Rick wins the bet.

In the year 2020 Frank found out that the shop in the photo is one of the 'mushrooming' growth of 'smartshops' (selling drugs) that are situated in Amsterdam nowadays, and you can eat Argentinian steaks next to it. There is nothing wrong with a good steak unless you’re vegetarian!

After a kung fu match Ed Swaan (Jon Bluming), on the left, shoots a so called 'art movie' with his beloved girl Lilly Marischka (Sylvia Kristel) that ended in a huge fight. When they escape they climb naked over a fence. Rick and Ed try to relax a bit by driving around. To their shock they see that the studio boss where the movie was shot is murdered. Location: From the Muiderpoortstation in the direction of the Wijttenbachstraat.

In the 90’s this area was reconstructed because the old houses had to be demolished. Personally, Frank thinks that the new ones have no character and the old ones looked much nicer. No doubt many would agree Frank.

Almost the same location as capture 4 here we look under the bridge to the Wijttenbachstraat.

A close up under the bridge. Personal note from Frank: "I almost got hit by a passing tram. Sometimes I am too focused on getting the perfect shot that I forget my environment." Happens to us all Frank and 'ReelStreets' doesn't insure for that!

Rick and Ed return to the location where the x-rated film was shot to find the original film but they cannot find it. They notice that Ed's clothes are covered in blood. Someone try to blame the murder on Ed. Later Rick and Ed enter the home of someone who was there while the film was shot and they take the film with them. At night Rick returns home but was attacked by the mysterious twins Max and Cas (Lodewijk and Hans Sijses) who were also at the location where the film was shot. More and more Ed and Rick start to think that the film is there to blackmail Lilly. Location unknown.

The next day Penny van der Laan who rents a room in the pinball arcade is followed by Max and Cas. Intersection Reguliersgracht and Keizersgracht.

Little has changed by the years or should I say: Nothing has changed here…

Here we see Penny on the same bridge filmed in 'Amsterdamned' Capture 37. It is the Melkmeisjesbrug at the Brouwersgracht.

In almost every film in Amsterdam this pedestrian bridge shows up. Amsterdamned (Capture 37), De Inbreker (Capture 14). It is a very cute and typical Amsterdam tiny little bridge.

When Frank wanted to take this photo there was a big car standing in the way. He asked the driver politely if he could move his car a little bit so he could take the photo and the driver said that it was no problem for him. We from ReelStreets say: "Dank u hartelijk!"

We see the car of Max and Cas driving on Rokin and they are looking and driving in the direction of Grimburgwal.

As a young child Frank remembers this place all too well. At the end of the small street was the hospital where youreceived your vaccinations. Not the best place to be as a young child.

The American car from Max and Cas is driving at Sleutelbrug at the Grimburgwal.

Recently a part of the quay on the left collapsed and fell into the canal. Luckily Frank took this shot earlier and even better; He didn’t fell in the water!

Penny escapes from the notorious duo by entering Oudemanhuispoort and only pedestrians and bikes can enter. In the background we see the Oudezijds Achterburgwal. Finally after a long chase they get her and they kidnap her.

This is the entrance of the University of Amsterdam and is only for pedestrians and bicycles, not for cars.

Rick gets a phone call and the kidnappers want to trade the film against Penny. The trade is made and Penny is free again. There are three suspects for the murders, Floor van Terpe (director), Otto van Halsden (financier) and Lode Zaayer who is a journalist who was at the recording. Or is it Max and Cas? To make a long story short; It comes to a chase between Rick, Penny and Ed with Max and Cas. Ed tells Rick that he switched the films and the original is destroyed. Location: Havenstraat (tram yard) in the direction of Baarsstraat.

This is taken at the entrance of the tram yard in the south west of Amsterdam and here nothing really changed except the road.

Both Max and Cas and Rick, Penny and Ed steal a tram and the chase with two trams is on. Location: Wibautstraat and the intersection of Mauritskade

For Frank the original photo was very confusing. In the original shot it would appear that it is taken from a tram. But there are no trams driving here!! It took him a long time to identify the spot until Frank realised that in the late 70’s they started to build a subway system underground and that the tram was not necessary anymore. In the background we see the Kohnstammhuis which is a striking building in Amsterdam, located on the Wibautstraat near the Rhijnspoorplein. The building only named after it was abandoned by the tax authorities in 1994 and then named after physicist, philosopher and educator Philip Kohnstamm.

It took Frank van den Berg a fraction of a second to identify this spot because of the KLM advertisement. Back in the days all great airline companies were situated in the Leidsestraat and royal KLM airlines had the best office on the Leidseplein. Piece of cake!

Here we see the Carlton Hotel at the beginning of the Vijzelstraat. Rick, Penny and Ed take a different direction into the Reguliersstraat. Shot has been taken from Muntplein. The Carlton hotel can also be seen in capture 15 from the movie 'Modesty Blaise' and from the inside at the movie 'Amsterdamned', capture 15.

Another easy one to identify. A spot were the trams go in 2 directions straight ahead and to the left. Muntplein of course….

The chase goes on and here we are at Frederiksplein and the tram moves forward into the Utrechtsestraat.

A selfie stick can NOT get as high as where the original camera was situated. Please forgive Frank that he couldn’t make it at the same angle as the original one. You are forgiven Frank, we all sometimes wish that we had a drone.

The beginning of the Utrechtsestraat and we are rolling towards the crossing of the Prinsengracht.

If Frank could have stayed there for a few more seconds he would have been hit by the tram. It's all about timing!

We are back at the Havenstraat and here we see in the background the Sint-Agneschurch at the corner of the Cornelis Krusemanstraat.

We are looking at the side of the church, that is dedicated to the martyr Saint Agnes and was built between 1919 and 1932 to a design by architect Jan Stuyt. It was designated a national monument in 1996. The Agnes was the first church in Amsterdam with a free-standing bell tower.

Ed is obstructing the rails by pushing a Citroen 2CK Break on the rails and thereby forcing Max and Cas to drive backwards. Location: Haarlemmermeercircuit in the direction of the Amstelveenseweg.

Buses and trams are the main issue on this photo.

Ed runs back to the tram but he cannot get on board. Location: Amstelveenseweg.

No more running man nowadays.

Both trams crash into each other and Ed grabs Max and Cas and knocks them out. TILT! Location Haarlemmermeercircuit and we are looking into the Cornelis Krusemanstraat.

No more colliding trams but an almost empty road. We see the Sint-Agneschurch on the left. Now it may look like it is always quiet in Amsterdam but Frank stood here for at least 10 minutes before all pedestrians, buses, cars, trams and other transportation vehicles were gone! We must presume that it is a safe place to stand for that long, your sense of duty is appreciated though.

Rick is leaving to go to the location where Lilly was making a television recording. When he gets there he sees blood. It is Otto van Halsden and he is dead. And Floor van Terpe is the murderer with a smoking gun in his hand. Out of the blue the police show up and Rick has learned from Ed some karate moves and knocks van Terpe down. Epilogue: Rick, Penny, Ed and his beloved girl Lilly relax a little on the Dutch heather in a Landrover. Location unknown
