The Naked Edge and Grosvenor Buildings filming

Annii Parrish very kindly brought to our attention that it was her ‘big sis’ that featured in the scene where Deborah Kerr was walking through the courtyard of East-end London flats.

‘Big sis’ Jacqueline was three at the time, and wearing the bow in her hair had seen the other children playing in the courtyard and had run out of their mother’s flat to go and join the fun, oblivious to it being filmed. Mother was told at the time that they were happy to leave the footage of Jacqueline in the film, but that she would not be paid as she was not part of the cast, or an extra and had run in whilst filming.

Fortunately for Reelstreets, Jacqui Jefford, as she is now known, was able to tell us that the location was Grosvenor Buildings, Manisty Street, London E14

Jacqui is now an Award Winning Celebrity Nail Technician and Author of The Encyclopedia of Nails and The Art of Nails amongst others.

Grosvenor Buildings were built in the late 19th Century after slum clearance and were, at the time, described as ‘model dwellings’. However, by 1965, tenants were complaining about the living conditions and the flats were purchased by the GLC and demolished soon after. The site and Manisty Street now lie under Robin Hood Gardens that were built in 1964. The site is once again in course of change.
