Shakespeare in Love

Owner of the Rose Theatre Philip Henslowe (Geoffrey Rush) pleads with his playwright Will Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) to complete the new comedy, 'Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter'.

Suffering from writer's block, Will asks Henslowe to lend him fifty pounds to buy a partnership in another play.

As night falls, Viola de Lesseps complains to her Nurse that heroines are always played by "pipsqueak boys" while preparing for bed. A lightened shot of Broughton Castle near Banbury in Oxfordshire.

Viola climbs out of her boat and ascends a flight of steps before disappearing through a gateway.

Will recognises the building as the home of Sir Robert De Lesseps and follows Viola. Broughton Castle in Broughton, Oxfordshire which also appears in 2011's 'Jane Eyre' as well as 'Three Men and a Little Lady', 'Oxford Blues' and BBC's television series 'Wolf Hall'.

Having gained entry to the house by posing as a minstrel, Will leaves after being threatened by Lord Wessex before appearing below Viola's window. Broughton Castle with a digitally added balcony to the centre.

Lord Wessex escorts Viola de Lesseps to court to receive Queen Elizabeth's approval for their proposed marriage. Hatfield House off Great North Road near Hatfield in Hertfordshire. A carriage almost runs Will down as he returns to the home of Viola de Lesseps. The bridge over the moat to the north of Broughton Castle in Oxfordshire.

The love story emerges as Shakespeare's muse walks inland from the wreck of a perilous voyage to an unknown land. Holkham Beach also features in 'A Warning to the Curious', 'Mosquito Squadron' and 'Operation Crossbow'.
