Whilst flying over north western Turkey, Phillip Scott's light aircraft crashes near the border after suffering engine problems. The view appears to be of the Home Counties part of Turkey.

Panning with the bus, the shot passes the Cenotaph and settles on the frontage of North Block on Whitehall where Carter brings the mail and newspapers in to Colonel Justin.

When Joan Scott reads a newspaper In Memoriam notice for her husband posted by Diana, her friend Pam Jennings sets out to discover who the mysterious woman is. The junction of Fleet Street and Bride Lane in EC4.

Eager to collect the fee, the Parking Attendant crosses to the Mini as the journalist parks. The car park has become Black Lion Mews, Hammersmith W6. The large building at top left of the capture is 383 King Street, now a Sainsbury's Local. (SR)

A Triumph Herald speeds from its parking space and almost runs Pam down as she leaves the car park. Graham Whelehan identifies this as Black Lion Lane in Hammersmith W6, just off King Street, with the Carpenter's Arms at the corner of St. Peter's Villas to the top centre.

Getting out of his Chauffeur driven Princess Limousine, Mr. Kovali arrives from the Embassy to convey the sad news to Joan that Phillip was killed in the crash and buried near the site.

Learning that the notice was inserted in the Daily Courier by D. Peck, Pam drives to the Surbiton address given to her. The plaque above the door reads St. Mary's Homes and Leigh Stanford recognised the building, now renamed as St. Mary's House, that stands in Church Gardens in Ealing W5.

Seeing a Man (Leon Cortez) appear at the door of number 11, Pam enquires if there's anyone living there named Peck. Robson found St. Mary's Homes on Church Gardens, Ealing.

Receiving a rude reply from the elderly Man, Pam returns to her car. Church Gardens in W5 located by Robson and confirmed by Leigh Stanford.

Moving with the action, Antony takes this comparison.

The Triumph pulls up opposite the apartment block. Identified by Rebel Blair this is Haven Green Court at the junction of Haven Green with Castlebar Road W5. The mansion block also appears in 'The Wrong Arm of the Law', ‘Doctor in Distress’, 'The Return of Mr. Moto', ‘Who Done It?’, ‘Danger Route’ and the 1959 version of ‘The 39 Steps’.

Pam leaves her car and is called over by Harris who appears from the shadows and introduces himself as a Police Officer.

By way of consolation, the two friends dine at Vardi's Restaurant in the West End where a man named Bill Vernon approaches Joan. Piccadilly Circus W1.

After Joan is told that by Kovali that Phillip wasn't killed in the crash, Colonel Justin (Geoffrey Toone) and Bill Vernon (Vincent Ball) come across the white Triumph in a ditch outside her house.

Joan visits her Solicitor, Fisher, to consult him about selling the house.

Vernon arrives at a shop on Mitre Street in Fulham. Outside numbers 9 and 10 Upper Square in Isleworth in Middlesex. The location can be seen in 'Touch of Death', 'The Sicilians' and 'The Hi-Jackers'.

Following instructions from a Contact, Joan heads to The Winning Post pub in Guildford.

Driving Pam's car via Epsom and Dorking rather than a faster route, Joan does as she has been told.

As Colonel Justin reviews a recording of a phone call received by Joan, she arrives at the pub for 2.15pm. The sign confirms the location as The Winning Post public house, not in Guildford but on Chertsey Road in Whitton, Middlesex.

The original sign has been taken down so Nick Boorman took this shot of its low level replacement . . . . featuring a less maligned brewery.

George (Raymond Adamson) approaches Joan Scott (Betty McDowall) and the two enter the pub at his suggestion. Confirmed by Peg Salaun, this is outside The Winning Post public house on Chertsey Road, Whitton.

George steers the car from the main road into a mews. Dave W found that the car did not steer off the road in Ealing as suggested from the previous capture but into Codrington Mews W11 looking towards Blenheim Crescent and the wall of the Poor Clares Convent. Many improvements in the mews now but enough detail is still present to allow confirmation he adds. (RL)

Cut to London's docklands. Looking south along the Thames in Isleworth, Middlesex with the cranes of Bridge Wharf, Taylor's Wharf and Lion's Wharf in the distance and the London Apprentice public house to the right. A similar view appears in 'White Cargo' while the pub also features in 'Walk a Tightrope', 'Sebastian' and 'Interlude'.
