Adjutant Grijpstra (Rijk de Gooyer) and Brigadier de Gier (Peter Faber) are on an evening patrol in an old Volkswagen beetle when all of a sudden the car stops. With much noise and smoke they get her back in business, right in front of a pub. Intersection Reestraat and Keizersgracht, Amsterdam

Frank loves to walk around on a sunny Sunday morning in Amsterdam. If someone is interested to buy an apartment in the white house in the background; it is for sale, 49 square meter for just 450.000 Euro.

- 05 Jun 2021

Grijpstra and de Gier see someone stumble out of the pub and step into his car. With full speed he drives the car into a store and wrecks both. At that moment they get a call to rush to another location. Reestraat 20 is where the car is parked, Amsterdam

This shop has existed since 1969 and is called 'Pontifex', they sell candles, incense and fragrance oil. It is a miracle that in the inner city of Amsterdam a shop exists longer than five years, let alone 50 years!!!
- Capture 3
- 05 Jun 2021

They take off and go to the other location leaving the drunk driver to the uniformed police. Once on location they prevent a drug addict from killing a young woman. A normal day in a life of an Amsterdam police detective. Reestraat, Amsterdam

On the right can read: Kaarsen (candles). So nice that some shops manage to survive. In the background can be seen that several buildings did not survive the past decades.

After their shift they decide to eat some Chinese food on a restaurant boat. Oosterdokskade looking at Sea Palace restaurant, Amsterdam

Since 1984 this is the biggest floating restaurant of Europe and has an excellent menu cart of all kinds of Chinese dishes.

- 05 Jun 2021

While having dinner they notice that a small boat is burning in the middle of the water. Another attending police officer is notifying the fire department and the water police. Grijpstra and de Gier don’t let this spoil their appetite. Oosterdokskade looking at Prins Hendrikkade, Amsterdam

Frank never saw a burning boat here and luckily for him it was much quieter when he took this photo.

De Gier brings Grijpstra to his house but once he arrived he got kicked out by his wife and he has to spend the night at de Gier’s house of necessity. Location Unknown.

The next day the water police did discover the burnt out boat. To their horror they discover a dead body in the boat and Grijpstra and de Gier are on this case and they rush to the location. Oosterdokskade looking at The Saint Nicolaas Church, Amsterdam

Probably to make it easier for the crew of the boats a jetty has now been made.
- Capture 8
- 05 Jun 2021

The boat is lifted out of the water. Oosterdokskade looking at Central Station, Amsterdam

As can be seen a connection has been made between the Central Station and the other side. Whether it was wise to make it green is another thing…
- Capture 9
- 05 Jun 2021

Grijpstra and de Gier are on location. They discover that the man has been shot in the head. Intersection Oosterdokskade and Oostertoegang, Amsterdam

This location has caused Frank some brain teasers since the now photo doesn’t fit with the original. It turns out that in the 70’s a bridge was made in front of the bridge for trains. This one can be seen on the original photo, but that bridge is obviously now gone. The only recognisable items are the overhead lines for the trains.
- Capture 10
- 05 Jun 2021

At the police station they find out that the deceased was Douwe Scherjoen (Wim Hoddes), a Frisian sheep merchant. The trail leads to Friesland. Because of the terrible state of the Volkswagen beetle they get a brand new car. They go to where he lives: Dinjum (a fictitious name). Elandsgracht 117, Police Headquarters Amsterdam

The only thing that has changed are the yellow trams, they don’t run any more.
- Capture 11
- 05 Jun 2021

They travel to Friesland but they drive way too fast with the result that they get stopped by a female motor police officer named: Hylkje Hilarius (Annemieke Verdoorn). De Gier instantly falls in love with this beautiful woman. Afsluitdijk between Noord Holland and Friesland

Luckily for Frank he didn’t get stopped here by the law and he could take the shot.
- Capture 12
- 05 Jun 2021

Because of a traffic jam they decide to split up. Grijpstra goes by helicopter to Dinjum and de Gier returns home. Breezanddijk on the Afsluitdijk

This photo is probably one of the last where everything is like it was before. Because of the rise in temperatures and the associated rise in sea level, the dike has now been raised. It can be foggy next to the sea.

Grijpstra meets the Frisian police Lieutenant Sudema (Hidde Maas) and his wife Gyske (Tetske van Ossewaarde) at their home. She tells Grijpstra that he was an evil person. Sudema and Grijpstra go to the widow of Douwes. Boppesteech 3, Idsegahuizum

Little has changed in the countryside.

- 31 Jul 2021

Sudema and Grijpstra walk to the house of Douwe and tell the bad news to his wife Mem Scherjoen (Femke Boersma). She doesn’t seem to be surprised or impressed by it. Identified as Stania State, Rengersweg 98b, Oenkerk, Friesland by Arjen Doolaar in the Netherlands and Manuel Gurtner in Switzerland.

Because Frank had to go to the small town of Stiens he couldn’t resist passing by this one and take the now shot. The name Stania-State comes from Jeppe Stania who founded this in the 16th century.
- Capture 15
- 31 Jul 2021

Her response: Now the devil got him, referring to her deceased husband. Identified as Stania State, Rengersweg 98b, Oenkerk, Friesland by Arjen Doolaar in the Netherlands and Manuel Gurtner in Switzerland who adds that the property dates back to the 16th century, the present estate was built around 1843 in neo-classical style, after a fire had destroyed the older residence completely. It is surrounded by an English landscape park.

Around 1744 the old building was replaced by a new one. The garden was designed by J.H. Knoop and 100 years later the garden architect Roodbaard redesigned it. In 1854 the house changed for the last time. Since 1960 Staatsbosbeheer owns this beautiful location and made it accessible for everybody.

Meanwhile in Amsterdam, de Gier is taking his bike to go to reinvestigate the original crime scene with the burned boat. Van Nijenrodeweg, Amsterdam

Now this was an easy one for Frank. First this is the building next to the building where De Gier used to life in the first film (Moord in de Haarlemmerhouttuinen) and second, Frank used to live just around the corner.

De Gier decides to follow the two strangers. Prins Hendrikkade looking at Sea Palace restaurant, Amsterdam

So much has changed here.
- Capture 22
- 05 Jun 2021

Huge ugly buildings in the background do not make Amsterdam look better.
- Capture 23
- 05 Jun 2021

De Gier stops at this little shop and he sees that the two men have noticed him. Kromme Waal 19, Amsterdam

By placing a pole it is impossible to park a Citroen CX here nowadays.
- Capture 24
- 05 Jun 2021

The Chinese man walks away and the other walks to de Gier and identifies himself as police officer Oppenhuizen. What is he doing in Amsterdam? It turns out that the beautiful Citroen CX as we can see in capture 23 belongs to Douwe. De Gier smashes one of the windows and takes some evidence. De Gier and Oppenhuizen decide to take a meal to discuss the case. The owner of the restaurant is involved in one of the two biggest Chinese triads in Holland. Kromme Waal, Amsterdam

In the winter time you can see the beautiful canal houses better than during the summertime.
- Capture 25
- 05 Jun 2021

After closing time de Gier keeps an eye on the restaurant and follows three obscure men leaving the restaurant. He follows them through the red light district. The men enter an old building and when de Gier kicks in the door he sees that there are two hostages tied up in their seats. All get arrested. Zeedijk 93, Amsterdam

Only during the lockdown early on the Sunday morning can one take this photo without anybody walking in the streets.
- Capture 26
- 05 Jun 2021

The arrested Chinese get transported to the notorious police station Warmoestraat. De Gier tells during the interrogations that tomorrow he will go to Friesland to visit Grijpstra on a bike!! It is a long ride. The same night buzzes with rumours amongst the Chinese community that a police officer will go on a bike to Friesland. Police station Warmoestraat 44-50, Amsterdam

The police station has been closed since 2000 and now there is nothing to remind you that there was a police station here.
- Capture 27
- 05 Jun 2021

The same night several Chinese steal bikes to follow de Gier. Sint Nicolaasbrug, Central Station, Amsterdam

Frank thinks that the old fence looked way better than this metal green thing.
- Capture 28
- 05 Jun 2021

Full of fresh courage de Gier leaves on his bike to Friesland. Followed by three Chinese men on bikes. Van Nijenrodeweg, Amsterdam

Now this is the flat where De Gier lived in the first Grijpstra en de Gier film.
- Capture 29
- 05 Jun 2021

After a long ride de Gier decides to take a little rest half way at the Afsluitdijk (the dyke that connects Noth Holland with Friesland). Vlietermonument, Afsluitdijk 1, Den Oever

This is the so called Vlieter monument on the Afsluitdijk and is located at the Vlieter, the place where the Afsluitdijk was closed in 1932. It is a monument in the shape of a watchtower, designed by architect Willem Dudok. The tower was built in 1933.

- 05 Jun 2021

The three Chinese men discover de Gier’s bike and while they stand there a rival couple of Chinese approach them from the other side of the dyke. Afsluitdijk 1, Den Oever

The dike now is a few metres higher than on this photo. The day after this photo was shot machines were uplifting this dike a few metres so Frank can keep his feet dry for the next couple of years.
- Capture 31
- 05 Jun 2021

The result is a massive shooting and all the Chinese die at the scene but de Gier is clever enough to hide himself the other side of the dyke, out of sight for the Chinese. Afsluitdijk 1, Den Oever

The grass looks better without shooting Chinese people on it.
- Capture 32
- 05 Jun 2021

After the shooting all the available police officers rush to the crime scene, including Grijpstra. Afsluitdijk 1, Den Oever

How hard Frank tried to get some police officers here with motorcycles, but we can clearly see that he failed on this mission.

They are now almost sure that today is the day that the robbery on the cattle market will take place. Arie and Frits are spotted on the scene. Numerous undercover agents and several mobile police units are on the location. All the buyers and sellers of cattle have huge amounts of cash in their pockets. Heliconweg, Leeuwarden

In 1963 the city of Leeuwarden built the cattle market and named it Frieslandhal. After a fire in 1996 the Frieslandhal was replaced by the World Trade Center and a tradition since early 1500 came to an end.

Meanwhile de Gier finds out that the rat at Oppenhuizen’s house died. While cleaning the animal house he finds a lot of heroin. Oppenhuizen is involved!!! Zeedijk 93, Amsterdam

All quiet on a lockdown Sunday morning in the center of Amsterdam. The only advantage of this terrible Covid-19 pandemic is that it is good for photos on ReelStreets.
- Capture 46
- 05 Jun 2021

Grijpstra knows that Oppenhuizen is on his boat so he and Hylkje rush to the small harbour where he is. Oppenhuizen takes a shot of heroin while de Gier enters the boat. He tells de Gier that the Chines gave him heroin and he made sure that they could get residence permits. He also tells that Douwe Scherjoen imported heroin from Turkey and he was a competitor to the triads. Oppenhuizen and Scherjoen had a meeting in Amsterdam to talk about it but it all got out of hand and Oppenhuizen shot Douwe. Arie and Frits were Scherjoen’s bodyguards. De Gier leaves the boat and doesn’t know exactly what to do. Sylsterwei, Engwierum

Frank prefers the Citroen 2CV to the white whatever kind of car.
- Capture 47
- 05 Jun 2021

No explosions when Frank was here, all peace and quiet.
