Out of the Shadow

When an Intruder is challenged after breaking into a room at Cambridge University, a fight breaks out which results in Tony Kingston falling into the river from a window.

Other views of the university town appear as the titles roll. Queens Bridge in Cambridge, commonly known as Mathematical Bridge, and the President’s Lodge of Queen’s College seen from Small Bridge, since renamed Silver Street Bridge.

Returning from abroad, Mark Kingston (Terence Longdon) arrives at the newspaper offices where he works.

The camera tilts up the building where the reporter learns more details about his brother's death from Jimmy the editor.

Tony's Tutor (Tony Thawnton) accompanies Mark to see the Dean of the College. New Court at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Followed by Mark, Detective Inspector Wills (Donald Gray) and Sergeant Willoughby (Arthur Howell) return to the police station to speak with Mary Johnson, whose step-father was pulled from the river at around the same time as Tony. Notting Hill police station on Ladbroke Road W11.

Morning dawns on the day after student Joy Clark tells Mark about the Intruder that she and John saw on the night of Tony's death. Recovering from a beating that he received the previous evening, Mark checks his watch as he walks to the Old Bridge to meet with John. Facing south on Granta Place in Cambridge.

At least the one remaining building provides the confirmation that I was in the correct place. (RL)

Mark arrives at the home of Mary Johnson to ask about her adoptive father, Professor Richard Johnson.

Leaving the house after learning about events leading up to Professor Johnson's death, Mark heads back to town to contact an old GI pal Sergeant Harry Grieg.

Ending his call advising about Mark's departure, a Man (Martin Lyder) steps out of a nearby telephone kiosk. The prop telephone kiosk stands on Round Church Street while properties on Bridge Street can be seen to the top right.

When trying to slow down, Mark discovers that the car's brakes aren't working.

Running out of control, the MG ends up in a ditch at a corner.

Followed by the Henchman, Mark leaves his hotel to speak with Copper Kettle waitress Jill after telling Inspector Wills about his car's brakes. Looking north on Trinity Street towards St. John’s Street with St. John’s College in the left distance.

I eventually established the angle to incorporate all the required features. (RL)

Police Constable Jones (Mark Eden) intervenes when Mark grabs the Henchman after waiting for him behind a wall. Lexham Walk at the junction with Cornwall Gardens Walk.

Obtaining a candlestick from Gerber that once belonged to Lord Robson, Mark returns to collect Mary Johnson (Diane Clare) and the two set off to Leicester College.
