American Broadcasting Company reporter Steve Moray records a broadcast "This story begins in North Africa." Stock footage from the recent war sets the scene.

"The tide of war ebbed and flowed across the Western Desert."

"Here in the small town of Igazi lived someone who was to become very dear to me. Here had been her home for as long as she could remember - a quiet home at one time, but now the dusty streets were full of the sounds of war. The British, Australians and New Zealanders were still in occupation but every day the threat of Rommel grew closer." And here, we're at the studio in Hertfordshire.

"Here, her Uncle ran a café, the Café Cigale. She used to help her Aunt in the kitchen, and sometimes sang to the soldiers the songs that made them think of home. Then one day the threat became reality. Where had flown the Union Jack now hung the swastika."

Completing his moral boosting recording, Steve Moray and his sidekick Berry head for their billets.

When Lilli is rescued after the Allied troops retake Igazi, Steve flies with her to Cairo. Looking down on Al Qanatir Al Khayriyyah to the north of Cairo, surrounded by the River Nile. To the left, Mohamed Ali Bridge and the Kafr Al Fokaha - Alkanater Kheireya bridge cross the Damietta Branch of the river.

Williams opens the car door for Colonel Wharton (Lawrence O'Madden) as he arrives at the airfield to meet Lilli and Steve.

Lilli is taken to the Continental Hotel where security has been stepped up. The Grand Continental Hotel overlooking Opera Square near Azbakiya Gardens in Cairo.

The cleared site is awaiting the construction of a new Grand Continental Hotel. (PW)

Mr. Wintertree (Michael Ward) prepares to drive Lilli Marlene (Lisa Daniely) to her hotel before knocking Steve Moray (Hugh McDermott) out and taking her to Berlin.

After the war, Servicemen arrive at the Royal Albert Hall for the 1946 El Alamein Anniversary Concert. To the left, looking out from the Royal Albert Hall stands Albert Hall Mansions on Kensington Gore SW7. The footage is also seen in the film's sequel 'The Wedding of Lilli Marlene'.

The glassed-in northern entrance made for tricky shooting but one can just discern the Albert Hall Mansions at the top left. SJ

Outside the concert hall, Steve makes a broadcast about the Eighth Army reunion while his recordist Bill Berry (Leslie Dwyer) monitors sound. To the left stands the wall of the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington.

After Lilli arrives causing Brownie to fetch the Major Phillips, Berry drives her away with Steve while his old Arms pals Taffy Evans (Stanley Baker), Scottie (Russell Hunter) and Pat O'Riley (Cecil Brock) look on. The northern entrance to the Royal Albert Hall on Kensington Gore SW7.

The entrance is no longer so exposed to the elements. SJ

Captain Phillips and his Security Men pursue the escaping van through London. The distinctive street lamp cuts through the darkness sufficiently for Dave W to site the camera position as the corner of Montpelier Street, London SW7 and Brompton Road, London SW3 looking towards the dome of Empire House, corner of Brompton Road and Thurloe Place whilst noting the distinctive horizontal band on the eaves of Ovington Court, corner of Ovington Gardens. When Lilli tells Steve that whilst in Germany Colonel Lieber had told her to seek out Major Rawthorn after the war, Berry heads to his address on Park Lane. Whatever his destination might be Dave W tells us that here Berry is about to pass the forecourt of Dorset House in Gloucester Place, London NW1 foreground left, and with Marylebone Town Hall in the background. Brownie (Ben Williams) Taffy, Scottie and Pat arrive outside Parkway Court after Major Phillips and his Men have followed Steve, Lilli and Berry into the building. "The building", as revealed in previous captures, is Dorset House on Gloucester Place, London NW1 as identified by Dave. (RL)
