Buying a newspaper, Jim asks directions from the Vendor. Pat Cleary found the location, outside the Horse & Tram on Eden Quay beside O'Connell Bridge in Dublin 1 with the entrance to the long demolished Corinthian Cinema to the right. Pat adds "In the 70s the Corinthian reopened as the Odeon and was renamed again in the 80s as the Screen.

The pub, now Meaghers, remains on Eden Quay but the cinema closed in the 90s and was demolished in 2002.

Jim's fellow prisoners cross examine him, discovering that Patricia had asked Doris to walk on ahead. Having grown up in the area, Derek Cunningham recognised this road off Nelson Street as St. Joseph's Parade, which was known to everyone as the Cottages.

Pat Cleary found that the street remains barely untouched by progress other than yellow doubles and one distant parking meter.

Dr. Edmund McNally (Rod Steiger) intervenes in the questioning. Derek Cunningham's find in the previous captures led Pat Cleary to find this reverse view of St. Joseph's Parade with St Joseph's church steeple in the left distance. St. Joseph's church also features in 'The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne' which was filmed on nearby Blessington Street.

Taking this comparison, Pat Cleary explains that "The Black Church" is a deconsecrated former Church of Ireland Chapel of Ease dating from 1830. Legend has it that anyone daring to walk around it anticlockwise three times at the midnight hour will result in a meet with Satan himself.

A designated Protected Structure it was closed in 2014 following the construction of a new library closer to the Harbour.

Taking this view, Pat explains that the church was deconsecrated in 1995 and was used as a tourist office until 2014 but is currently vacant.
