Undercover Girl

Investigative journalist Billy Peters (John Watson) runs into view. Looking north-west towards The Ham in Brentford, Middlesex. The arch is part of the viaduct carrying the railway between Southall and Brentford Dock and the building in the left of centre background appears to be number 152 Brentford High Street.

Fleeing for his life, Billy makes his way across waste ground. Facing the bridge carrying the railway from Brentford Dock over the Grand Union Canal in Brentford which can also be seen in 'Women Without Men'.

Panting for breath, the reporter appears from beneath a bridge. The towpath of the Grand Union Canal with Brentford Bridge crossing the top of the frame.

Investigating the death of his colleague, magazine photographer Johnny Carter (Paul Carpenter) heads to the Silver Galleon Club and questions the owner, Ted Austin. Outside the Kensington Hotel on Queen’s Gate in SW7 with the corner of Harrington Road in the left background.

Following a lead from his girlfriend Joan Foster, manager of the Silver Galleon, Johnny leaves Dr. Miller’s Nursing Home after being told that he can't be seen. Following Alastair's findings (see the following captures) is this the western entrance to the drive of No 9 Rosslyn Road, Twickenham. Both Alastair and I believe it is, although Johnny is surely looking the wrong way. (RL)

Given an job by his Editor, Johnny drives to the Adria Hotel to take glamour shots of Miss Brazil. The corner of and Stanhope Gardens and Queen’s Gate in SW7. The Adria Hotel to the right still stands but the background buildings have since been demolished.

Having completed the assignment, Johnny drives on to speak with Evelyn King. Richmond Hill in Richmond, Surrey.

Peter Bywaters points out that, today, Johnny would be driving the wrong way down Richmond Hill which is now a one-way street.

Having hailed a taxi outside the Adria Hotel, Peggy pays the Cabbie after travelling to the Silver Galleon Club. Queen’s Gate with the Queen’s Gate Hotel across the road to the left of centre.

The pavement on the corner has extended as usual but I think we have the same tree. SJ

The shot moves with Peggy as she enters the club to find Austin and end her involvement with him. Looking southward along Queen’s Gate SW7 with the backs of buildings on Onslow Gardens in the distance.

I'd like to think that that's the same utility cover. SJ

After discovering Evelyn's unconscious in her apartment, Johnny returns to the nursing home where he questions the only Patient before being captured by Mac and Cash. Found by Alastair to be Ellesmere Road, Twickenham looking north from Rosslyn Road. (RL)

A sequence of darkened street scenes trace Johnny's journey through the night after his rescue by Inspector Willingdon and Johnson, a Private Detective. 'Darkened streets' maybe, but Dave W brightens the scene to tell us that this is Endell Street, London WC2 looking south-east towards Long Acre, that thankfully, remains the identifiable. (RL)

Goodness what a clutter this is, but daytime helps to discern Garden House and to the left the white ex-pub now Greek restaurant Kembles Head on the corner of Bow Street and Long Acre. SJ

Cut to another poorly defined street. This 'poorly defined street' is also Endell Street says Dave but now shows Johnny's progress in the opposite direction and from a camera position on the corner of Endell Street and Shelton Street west side. Dave adds, that lightening the shot shows the correct window shapes for 20 Endell Street and the stained glass factory at number 18. (RL)
