Keeping Mum

The train passes over a bridge. This is part of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway line near Goathland, Whitby in North Yorkshire. This specific segment is off the A169 turning, just up from Goathland Viewpoint car park but just before the turning for The Long Barn holiday cottages.

Now the train passes under a bridge. This seems to be the bridge under Darnholme Lane, Whitby, YO22. Part of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Line.

Train coming into station. This is Pickering Station, 28 Park Street, Pickering YO18 7AJ. Some sources list this as being shot in Cornwall, but that scene was deleted and the sequence reshot at Pickering Station. The original Bodmin station sequence is included in the deleted scenes on the Entertainment in Video DVD.

Site visitor Mark Timbs snapped this recent image at Pickering Station and clearly shows the roof that has been added since Keeping Mum was made. The bridge is still visible in the far distance.

Lance (Patrick Swayze) is at the golf club trying to teach Gloria (Kristin Scott Thomas) improved positions... This is Mount Murray Golf Club, Mount Murray Back Road between Douglas and Ballasalla on the Isle of Man, IM4 2HT.

Parental car speeds round the bend. This is West Baldwin Road just south of Injebreck on the Isle of Man. This hairpin is very close to the River Glass.

The concerned parents arrive back at the school in a frantic search for their boy. This is Foxdale Primary School, Mines Road, Higher Foxdale, Isle of Man.

The worried parents see a stranger standing with their son near the bridge. This is near Injebreck on West Baldwin Road, just down the road from the hairpin bend seen earlier.

The parents discover the stranger is in fact Grace (Maggie Smith), so with the misunderstanding resolved they are on their way back home with their new housekeeper. The sign says 'Little Wallop' but this is not Cornwall, this is another part of the Isle of Man. This is the edge of the village Glenmaye, specifically the turn of the A27, just at the end of Dalby Road. Cars in the back ground are facing the start of Sound Road.

Early morning after the dog is silenced, another alternate shot of the village St. Michael Penkivel, near Truro, TR2 4AJ.

Dog owner, Mr Brown (James Booth), is still looking for his pet. This is just to the right of the church in St. Michael Penkivel, near Truro.

It is not like Lionel and Cynthia to make no comment on that fence. (RL)

The weekly football match featuring Nether Poppleton Vs Little Wallop. Whilst Walter (Rowan Atkinson) is demonstrating how not to play well in goal, Lance (Patrick Swayze) is making a charm offensive against Gloria. This was shot on the grassy area just behind The Royal Chapel of St. John the Baptist church, which is also right next to Tynwald Hill (site of the oldest continuos Parliament in the world) in the village of St John's, Isle of Man IM4 3BP. Other views of the village can be seen in 'Thomas and the Magic Railroad'.

Village life, just around the corner from the church in St. Michael Penkivel, near Truro. The red phone booth is a film prop, as the regular house was made up to seem like a post office.

So reality was available for Lionel ans Cynthia to capture. (RL)

Gloria goes to distant coastal car park for a secret meeting. Niarbyl at the end of Niarbyl Road close to Dalby on the Isle of Man.

She approaches a cottage, which really is just along the pathway from the Niarbyl Road car park. This location was solved by visitor Jim Smith.

Gloria meets Lance at cottage. Just along from the Niarby Road car park. The film 'Waking Ned' had scenes shot just behind this cottage location.

Grace goes on a walk to the school. She is walking along West Baldwin Road, Injebreck, Isle of Man approaching the same hairpin bend that featured earlier. This is also a wider take on the location used in Capture 11, but the wood walkway next to the bridge is obscured by the foreground fence. In the background can be glimpsed part of West Baldwin reservoir.

Gloria and Lance...and Grace also turns up. Although one might think this was a green screen set, it is actually a real view from the Sound Visitor Centre and Restaurant near Cregneash, Isle of Man.

Gloria is on the seafront wondering where Lance is. This is Harris Promenade, Douglas, Isle of Man. The memorial on the left is dedicated to those who died in World Wars l and ll. The location is literally just across the road from the next shot . . .

Walter (Rowan Atkinson) arrives at the convention centre to give his speech. This is the Villa Marina, Harris Promenade, Douglas, Isle of Man IM1 2HP. The shot hides the fact that this building is right next to the Douglas sea front!

Holly (Tamsin Egerton) comes out of a theatre with a 'sensible boyfriend'. This is part of the same building as Walter gave his speech in the previous shot. Villa Marina, Harris Promenade, Douglas.
