Tenth Man, The

City of London scenes help to illustrate the busy lifestyle of amoral businessman George Winter. Ludgate Circus EC4 with Ludgate Hill and St. Paul’s Cathedral beyond the since removed bridge carrying the railway between Holborn Viaduct and Blackfriars stations.

The junction of Prince’s Street, Threadneedle Street, Cornhill, Lombard Street and King William Street seen from Mansion House Street in EC3 with the Royal Exchange in the left background. The Royal Exchange and the streets around appear in many films including ‘Heavens Above!’, 'What's Good for the Goose', 'Two Gentlemen Sharing', ‘Bobbikins’ and ’28 Days Later’.

A constant procession of buses make their way along one of the City’s streets. Jules Ballantyne sees us in Piccadilly, London W1 looking at the junction with Berkeley Street which was simultaneously spotted by Steve Randall who adds that we're facing the Berkeley Hotel with the still extant Devonshire House on the extreme left, UK headquarters of Citroën until 1936.

The camera finds the offices of George Winter, who sits on the board of several companies as well as being the Member of Parliament for Middlepool.

After demanding a divorce from George as a General Election approaches, Catherine Winter (Antoinette Cellier) leaves the home of her lover Robert Colby. Catherine is seen here leaving 34 Queen Anne's Gate, London SW1 (RL)

Winter begins his election campaign in the story’s Middlepool. My purchase of the DVD has proven to be a good investment. 148-150 Shenley Road, Borehamwood, now 'The Hart and Spool' public house. At the time of filming it was the Grosvenor Restaurant/cafe at 1 Studio Parade, Borehamwood. Confirmed by Simon Gee at the Elstree & Borehamwood Museum who has very kindly provided some historic photographs that can be viewed via the Header Section of this fim. (RL)

Antony Blair found a more colourful scene with some alterations to the windows.

Looking the other way, the shot reveals that the back of the sandwich boards promote the opposition. 148 Shenley Road, Borehamwood looking south and immediately towards the junction with Whitehouse Avenue. (RL)

It took three goes at this and still it's not quite right, being defeated by the lack of height due to lack of access to the top of O'Neill's on the corner of Euston Road and Judd Street. SJ

Soon after Winter meets one of his victims who resists being threatened or bribed, passengers in the station turn as an ambulance speeds towards the platform where the body that has crashed through the train shed roof lies.
