Inside Information (A Scotland Yard supporting feature)

The morning after Bonfire Night celebrations, a Ford Popular brings reporter John Wainwright and Jim Weldon to the village of Saxton.

On the field where villagers had been enjoying themselves the previous evening, Ambulancemen carry the charred remains of a man towards their vehicle.

Sergeant Conway (Bernard Fox), Inspector Hammond (Ronald Adam) and a Detective Sergeant (Michael Collins) watch as Offices continue to sift through the ashes of the still smouldering fire.

Learning that the field had recently been purchased by an international playboy, the Inspector and Sergeant Conway make their way to call on Mr. Anthony Nielson. The junction of Camp Road, West Place, The Causeway and West Side Common in Wimbledon SW19.

The camera follows the police car as it slows to turn into the courtyard of the socialite's house. The blurred street sign reads West Side Common and the eastern of Camp Road can be seen in the right background.

Knocking at the door, the two Detectives find no one at home. The entrance to 26 West Side Common in Wimbledon.

This is almost too close a shot from John but it's very overgrown and there may not be much to see. (SJ)

As the Inspector and his Sergeant turn to leave, a car pulls into the courtyard. Looking onto Wimbledon Common from outside 26 West Side Common.

Getting out of the Jaguar when Harris (Robert MacKenzie) opens the door, Anthony Nielson (Basil Henson) and Miss Ellie (Colette Wilde) appear happy to co-operate. The property stands on West Side Common in SW19 and also appears in 'Solo for Sparrow'.

Journalists wait outside the police station for questions to be answered.

Inspector Hammond tells the Reporters that there is no statement at the moment.

The Inspector arrives at the mortuary where, after completing his examination of the corpse, the Pathologist explains that the remains were those of a black man and that he had been stabbed. Nelson Hospital on Kingston Road, London SW19. The hospital makes an appearance in several productions including 'The Fatal Journey', 'The Silent Weapon' and 'The Dark Man'. (SD)

Peter Bywaters explains that the hospital wing has been replaced with a new building although other parts of the original Nelson Hospital remain.

Detectives make enquiries about Persons known to the police and fitting the description. Peter Bywaters recognised Merton Park Garage on Kingston Road SW19, the canopy of which can be seen more clearly in 'Accidental Death'.

The garage stood in front of Merton Park Studios and this is the location now by Peter.

After visiting clubs, cafés and bars frequented by black Men, Officers continue to make house to house enquiries.

At one property, Two Detectives learn from Mrs. Evans, the Landlady, that one of Lodgers went away about a week ago.

After Mrs. Evans identifies the body of Sammy White, the Inspector returns to London to re-examine a crime that had been committed several days before. Scotland Yard, seen from Victoria Embankment in SW1.

After asking Inspector Forbes about the arrest of Ferguson and Miller during an attempted robbery at a bonded warehouse in the East End, Inspector Hammond calls on Jim Weldon at his apartment. Beverly Gate House on West Hill in Putney SW15.

Paying a visit to the location, Peter Bywaters explains that "Beverly Gate House is today part of the Whitelands Park Estate. The building neighboured Whitelands Teaching College until 2005, when the college was sold for housing, and is a reminder of the past. Behind the property now stands a very modern estate of apartments."

Finding the reporter dead in his flat, the Inspector visits Ferguson and Miller on remand in prison. Wandsworth Prison on Heathfield Road SW18. The prison can be seen in a number of productions including 'There Was a Crooked Man', ‘Ooh, You Are Awful’, ‘The Time of His Life’, ‘The Birthday Present’ and 'Calculated Risk’.

Ferguson (Jack Taylor) leaves court after being released on bail. Facing Bow Street Magistrates Court at the corner of Broad Court and Bow Street WC2. The entrance to the once famous court can also be seen in 'Rude Boy, 'The Informers' and '21 Days'.

Ferguson makes his way to the Calypso Social Club. The hanging sign to the centre gives a clue that this is Tower Court, a few yards from Seven Dials.

Continuing to tail Ferguson, the Detective follows him into a pub just off Berwick Street. The Crown public house at Seven Dials, on the corner of Monmouth Street and Short's Gardens WC2.

The pub appears busier which is good. (PW)

After Ferguson is fatally stabbed in an alley outside the pub, the Inspector calls on Mr. Nielson to help with enquiries.
