Murder Anonymous (A Scotland Yard supporting feature)

On a London suburban street, an ambulance waits outside the home of Mr. Langster.

Inside the house, a Police Doctor tells a Detective Sergeant that this is a case for the Coroner as he completes his examination of Mr. Langster's corpse.

The Pathologist contacts Scotland Yard where Inspector Conway is placed in charge of enquiries. New Scotland Yard on Derby Gate SW1.

After speaking with Langster's Housekeeper, the Inspector pays a visit to Mrs. Laura Sheldon (Jill Bennett).

When the Sergeant discovers that Langster was a co-respondent in a divorce case, he and Inspector Conway make their way to speak with the dead man's former partner Mr. Bowman at his wholesale fruit business in Covent Garden. Covent Garden in London WC2.

Taken early enough to beat the fire eating, juggling unicyclist and the associated over enthusiastic onlookers. (PW)

Finding that Bowman's alibi was watertight, Inspector Conway speeds south, across the metropolis . . . .

. . . to the Miramar Hotel where air hostess Mrs. Bowman has taken a room.

Douglas Sheldon (Peter Arne) arrives home with his guide dog to where his wife is being questioned by Inspector Conway about her relationship with Langster.

Crossing the road, the Inspector begins another day working on the case during which he is led to speak with Mr. Robinson, Mrs. Bowman's Judo Instructor. Victoria Embankment with Derby Gate to the right.

After asking for help from Interpol, Inspector Conway flies to Rome.

The Inspector arrives in the Italian capital to find Mrs. Bowman. A view over Rome towards the dome of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.

A Detective (Monti DeLyle) waits outside the building where Mrs. Bowman has an apartment. This is one of the nine-storey blocks running along Stanhope Street as part of the Regent's Park Estate in Camden NW1. (SR)

The blocks are all slightly differently configured and the northernmost one has been demolished: I opted for this one on the east side (Harrington House), which is the best match. SJ

Inspector Conway returns to London and confirms with Mrs. Bowman's employer that she had broken her collar bone weeks before so could have not be the killer. Formerly the Imperial Airways Empire Terminal, this is the BOAC Terminal on Buckingham Palace Road SW1.

From night to a sparkling winter's day. SJ

Still convinced that the murder had been committed by judo, the Inspector ponders what may have been overlooked. The Grade II Listed BOAC Terminal on Buckingham Palace Road, now the National Audit Office.

Rather a splendid building, adorned by Eric Broadbent's Art Deco "Speed Wings over the World" above the entrance. SJ

The Inspector returns to Langster's house where he waits outside for Douglas Sheldon to appear on his regular evening walk.

When Mrs. Sheldon reports that her husband has disappeared, Police begin to look for him. Outside St. Mary's Catholic Primary School in Russell Road, Wimbledon SW19 identified by Peter Bywaters who adds that the rear of Wimbledon Theatre can be seen in the left background.

The location now includes an extension, here captured by Peter.

A Blind Man is approached by an Officer. Recognised by Peter Bywaters, this is Russell Road with the junction of The Broadway and Kings Road in the right distance.

Peter found that the site of the garage is now occupied by a nursery.

Outside Southlands College a Constable questions another Man. Southlands College had premises in Wimbledon at the time of filming. The corner of Queensmere Road and Wimbledon Park Side in SW19 located by Peter Bywaters.

Peter explains that Southlands College was located at 65 Wimbledon Parkside until 1997 and the Wimbledon and District Synagogue now occupies this corner plot of the former college grounds.

The search continues as Inspector Conway assures Mrs. Sheldon that the police are doing everything they can.

More identification papers are requested. Found by Peter Bywaters, this is the South Wimbledon Club located at 6 Russell Road between Wimbledon Theatre and St. Mary's Primary School in SW19. The building can also be seen in 'The Strange Case of Blondie'.

Moving the story on to a run down part of the city, a shot begins to pan right. Back to Dave W's school days once again and fortunate us, for this he says is Sutherland Street looking towards Ebury Bridge, London SW1 with the White Ferry House pub on the left. (RL)

The camera settles on the entrance of the Kirkall Hotel where a Guest complains about the howling of a dog. Following on from the previous capture Dave finds us at 55 Sutherland Street, formerly 36 Sussex Street on this remodelled corner block. (RL)
