Captain Briggs writes in the ships log “November 11th. Lat. 35° N Long. 56° W – Rough weather continuously. Trouble with crew – Bilson flogged two men – I suspect trouble ahead.” As well as filming at Nettlefold Studios in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, according to several websites, shooting took place off Falmouth in Cornwall. Manuel Gurtner adds that the "Mary B. Mitchell" played the part of the "Mary Celeste". The ship was built in 1892 as three-masted topsail schooner by Paul Rodgers at Carrickfergus, Ireland and appeared in 1936's 'McGlusky the Sea Rover' 1936 before being wrecked in 1944.
