Position of Trust (The Scales of Justice)

This case began in a university city whose cloistered calm is very different from the tense drama of a criminal trial. Looking over All Soul's College from the spire of the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin towards Queen's College in Oxford, Oxfordshire with High Street to the right.

Leaving college in the middle of term, Simon Dennington, only son of Sir James Dennington, arrives at his parent's London home by taxi. Spotting Cranmer Court Stores in the left background, Steve Randall located Nell Gwynn House on Sloane Avenue in SW3.

Having met her in a bistro in Pimlico, Simon leaves a riverside pub with Yvonne Purvis (Imogen Hassall). Outside the City Barge public house on Strand-on-the-Green W4 with Kew Railway Bridge crossing the Thames in the background,

Antony Blair returned to the spot at low tide some 60 years later to find the railway bridge obscured by replacement trees.

Discovering that they share similar interests, the two leave the Tate Gallery. Millbank in London SW1.

Reaching Simon's car, the couple enjoy a drive into the country before the inevitable happens. Millbank with Tintagel House, the Metropolitan Police Headquarters on Albert Embankment across the River Thames.

After falling for each other, Simon and Yvonne set off for a weekend on the south coast. The Esplanade in Brighton, Sussex with the West Pier in the background.

The shelter, which had a Roto-Sphere on top, was removed in the early 90s. The West Pier was destroyed by fire in 2003 leaving only a rusting framework. (SD)

Discreetly, Simon Dennington chooses not to stay in one of the big hotels. The Esplanade outside the Grand Hotel in Brighton, Sussex. The hotel also features in 'Smokescreen', 'Slade in Flame' and 'Be My Guest'.

Returning to London, Simon drives to the address on the private detective's card. Looking east on Doughty Street WC1 as it becomes John Street located by Steve Randall.

Along with an added storey to the white-faced building on the corner with Roger Street, bollards and trees dominate the road. SJ

Simon enters the building where he discovers that Mr. Robbins is asking for £5,000 in cash to sooth his client. Number 2 Doughty Street, found by Steve Randall who advises that the building was both then and now named “Pemberton Chambers”.

After selling his shares in Dennington Computers to raise the money, Simon drives to Robbins' home address. Dave W picks up once again on his native SW1 and finds St George's Drive in Pimlico SW1 with a view towards Lupus Street and Claverton Street. (RL)

Looking towards the Thames with the Pimlico library alongside Pimlico Academy which replaced Pimlico School, demolished late 2000s, which in turn replaced the terrace seen in the original and also at the beginning of "Hunted", (q.v.) especially capture 3 and its match taken by me in 2009 when there was a temporary space as the Academy went up. The Dolphin pub behind the trees on the left closed in about 2007 and converted to flats. SJ

Parking outside, Simon looks up at the building where the blackmailer lives. From the previous capture Dave takes us to Looking at 88 St George's Drive SW1. The adjacent WWII bomb site having now been built upon. (RL)

Entering the building armed with a gun, Simon confronts Robbins. Avoiding the confrontation, Dave casts his eyes to 119 and its neighbours in St George's Drive SW1 (RL)

As Simon stands trial for murder, the case takes an unexpected turn when his solicitor receives a visit from Yvonne Purvis.
