If you have any information regarding this production, the locations or, even better, some comparison shots please contact us. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait.

We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Please do not forward additional screen captures to us but bring the detail to our attention, for we do, and are, 're-addressing' these older entries as time allows.

The titles appear over a mixture of stills and live action, setting the scene as mid-60s London. Looking out from the Royal Festival Hall onto the River Thames in SE1 with Hungerford Bridge to the left.

Paul Lincoln visited the Royal Festival Hall and found a significant number of changes, with more underway as well as a much developed vista. (RL

A Figure is highlighted. The front entrance of the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank.

There is no longer motor access at this level as captured by Paul. (RL)

William "Bill" MacLean enters the Royal Festival Hall.

  • 'Now' required

George Venaxas (Ronnie Barker) watches as the CIA Agent climbs the stairs to the upper levels of the Royal Festival Hall.

Reaching the roof at the rear of the building, William MacLean (Van Heflin) makes his way past an Agent. In the right background stands the Shell Centre on Belvedere Road.

A number of changes have happened to the Royal Festival Hall and the complex since filming took place, it is now Grade 1 listed. Such are the changes and the significant refurbishment presently in hand it is impossible now to truly take an accurate comparative shot, not least having to resort to ground level. Paul Lincoln has done well this shot, having found the most appropriate spot to reveal the much needed establishing and remaining Shell Building and the new foreground structure. (RL)

Across the King's Reach of the Thames, the background panorama includes Shell-Mex House, the Savoy Hotel and and Waterloo Bridge.

The upper terrace of the Hall no longer has public access so Paul took this shot from the main Riverside Terrace which allowed a much greater foreground interest of the River. (RL)

MacLean enters the building to meet with Deputy Director of the CIA Mr. Austen, Mr. Morehouse representing the National Security Council and Judson Murphy. In the right centre distance stands the Clock Tower of the Palace of Westminster.

As stated with the previous capture, the upper terrace no longer has public access so Paul captures the same background and a more attractive fore and mid ground. (RL)

  • 'Now' required

Having been dismissed from the CIA for failing to bring in David Martin who eventually became a defector, MacLean walks past Charles Griddon (Charles Gray) as he leaves the meeting. To the right, the Shell Centre is again visible.

Judson Murphy (Paul Maxwell) tells financier Griddon that he has a problem in Turkey before discussing payment. Looking from the Royal Festival Hall across the site of the Festival of Britain's South Bank Exhibition and the Thames towards the Houses of Parliament with County Hall to the left.

On this occasion Paul had to take more drastic steps to secure a comparative shot, I like to think that he was standing on something. (RL)

That evening, the disgraced agent leaves the club where Venaxas tells him that he'd been framed and that Martin hadn't defected.

  • 'Now' required

Venaxas leaves the club shortly afterwards and makes his way to a car park where he is attacked by Mikhail (Alex Marchevsky) and his Associate.

  • 'Now' required

Following Venaxas into the car park, the American joins the fight before the Greek agent is injured. The shape and layout of the area suggests that this could be Twickenham Studios in St. Margarets.

Looking north. Opposite there was filming in the Columbia Hotel. "Not allowed to say," was the reply to my polite inquiry. Not perhaps the most sympathetic publicity stance. SJ

Venaxas walks along dark, quiet streets. Taking into account the following captures, this is very likely to be Crown Road in St. Margarets, Twickenham.

Finding a card for Boutique Gina when going through Venaxas's wallet, MacLean telephones Miss Sebastian the proprietress. Sussex Place, London W2 identified by Richard Lovejoy.

Paul Lincoln spent some time around Sussex Place to capture a series of shots for us. He noted here not only how the mini has changed but how it has grown. (RL)

Returning home to discover the Woman who had signalled to Venaxas' assailants dead on his bed, MacLean looks through a window after knocking Nikolai Volkov out when he enters the flat. Looking down onto St. Margarets Road with St. Margarets Tavern on the right.

John captured some nice street signs as well as the rusting foreground. (SJ)

John didn't wait for a bus to obscure the background. (SJ)

The taxi drops MacLean off near the flat where Kay Sebastian lives. The Barons in St. Margaret's with Twickenham Studios in the background. The studio wall can be also seen in 'White Cargo', 'The Ghost Camera', 'Breakaway' and 'Not So Dusty'.

The scene now by John. (SJ)

MacLean makes his way towards the building. The back of St. Margaret's Court with The Barons in the background.

John caught the background here nicely. (SJ)

Paying the Caretaker (Harry Hutchinson), MacLean makes his way up to the flat where he finds Miss Sebastian being questioned by Parry from the CIA. The rear of numbers 14 to 24 St. Margaret's Court on The Barons in St. Margarets.

The best John could do here. (SJ)

Judson Murphy and Superintendent Barnes (Archie Duncan) arrive at Boutique Gina where Kay Sebastian (Heidelinde Weis) is dressing a window. The view through the window is of Sussex Place beyond the junction with Stanhope Terrace and Strathern Place.

Paul managed the same scene from the pavement. (RL)

Discovering from Murphy that he's been blamed for Parry's death, MacLean drives to the boutique. Seen through the railings of the Victoria, this is the junction of Sussex Place, Gloucester Square and Strathern Place found by Richard Lovejoy. In the left background building stands Sussex Lodge which can be seen in 'Mr. Denning Drives North' as well as 'You Can’t Escape' and 'The Spaniard’s Curse'.

An unimpeded view from Paul Lincoln. (RL)

Two Figures watch as the Cortina comes to a stand outside the boutique. Facing numbers 34 and 32 Sussex Place, identified by Richard Lovejoy.

Another view from Paul with an unimpeded view. (RL)

Gerod (Paul Armstrong) draws on a cigarette. Richard Lovejoy found the corner of Gloucester Square and Strathern Place with the since altered 48 Gloucester Square to the centre and the roof of 28 Sussex Place to the bottom right.
