Murder is Easy

A train speeds through the countryside carrying Professor Luke Williams towards London.

The train calls at Wychwood under Ashe station where Lavinia Fullerton joins the computer expert in his compartment. Newbury Racecourse station on Hambridge Road in Newbury, Berkshire . . . and yes, continuity has gone a little astray as the High Speed Train has become a train of Mark I carriages hauled by a Class 31 locomotive.

Continuing forward by HST once again, the Professor and Miss Fullerton strike up a conversation about his research at MIT in Boston before she explains that she's on her way to Scotland Yard to report several murders in her village.

Luke and Jimmy stand a respectful distance away as the Vicar (Ivor Roberts) mentions several mourners by name, Mr. Abbot (Anthony Valentine) who served Miss Fullerton well as her legal advisor.

Moving on from Major Horton, the Vicar is at a loss for words when facing Mr. Ellsworthy (Jonathan Pryce). Hambleden in Buckinghamshire.

Miss Honoria Waynflete (Olivia de Havilland) is remembered by the Vicar before the recently deceased Dr. Clarence Humbleby is also recalled.

Agreeing to find out what's going on. the pair arrive at Ashe Manor for tea with Lord Easterfeld where they meet the peer's secretary and fiancée, Bridget Conway. Geoff Dodd recognised Binfield Manor on Forest Road at Binfield in Berkshire.

Picking Luke up on a lane whilst he's out walking after being invited to stay at the Manor, Bridget explains the circumstances of Harry Carter and Tommy Pearce's accidental deaths whilst driving him home. The gateway to Binfield Manor on Forest Road also recognisable in ‘Interlude’, ‘The Stud’ and ‘See No Evil’.

After showing Luke the exhibits in the Easterfield Collection, Bridget Conway (Lesley-Anne Down) and Miss Waynflete take him around the outside of the house where the window that Tommy fell from is pointed out. Binfield Manor located by Geoff Dodd.

Miss Waynflete explains that no one liked Tommy and that is was good of Lord Easterfield to keep him on. Identified by Geoff Dodd, Binfield Manor can also be seen in ‘Tales that Witness Madness’, ‘See No Evil’, ‘The File of the Golden Goose’ and ‘Mrs Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter’.

When Amy Gibbs the housekeeper can't be located and her room door is found to be locked, Luke climbs onto the roof to gain access. Geoff Dodd found Binfield Manor on Forest Road, Binfield in Berkshire.

As the murders are talked about in the grounds of Ashe Manor, Mr. Abbot tells the Professor that witches would be tried for criminal insanity today.

From his window at Ashe Manor, Luke sees Rivers (Trevor T. Smith) the chauffeur raising his voice to Bridget, telling her that Lord Easterfield needs to be told about something.

Luke walks from the police station after Constable Reed doesn't believe his suspicions about who the killer is. Hambleden is a popular filming location that also appears in 'The Christmas Tree', 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, ‘A Bunch of Amateurs’, ‘The Black Cat’ and ‘Young and Innocent’ to name just a few.

In Bridget's Aston Martin, Luke drives back to Ashe Manor as Rivers arrives to tell the truth to the Constable. Looking south-west on the road out of Hambleden in Buckinghamshire.

Following the discovery of Rivers' body by the gates to Ashe Manor, Constable Reed listens to Lord Easterfield's theory. Inside the gates to Binfield Manor in Berkshire.

While Bridget takes Gordon into the Manor, Luke accompanies the Constable to the rear of the property.

Telling Luke that the vehicle that killed Miss Fullerton had been identified as a large maroon car, Constable Reed crosses to his Lordship's Rolls Royce.

Revealing that she knows more about how each of the victims met their end, Honoria slows before turning to Bridget.

While the Constable calls at Ashe Manor, Luke arrives at Miss Waynflete's house to be told that she hasn't returned.
