Laburnum Grove (1936) – Location Investigation
Dave Buckley has been spending time trying to establish the location(s) used in the opening of this film made at Ealing Studios, and having ‘hit a brick wall’ is wondering if his work to date might trigger an answer from someone who perhaps lives or knows the area(s) better.

‘clean’ frame just before titles appear (has been lightened)

Another horse drawn wagon appears from left. The name on the side is ‘A Hester’. Although unable to find a trade directory for 1936 on line without paying a small fortune, I did find one for 1909 where an ‘R.Hester’ Greengrocer, was listed at 37 Walnut Tree Road, Brentford (near Kew Bridge). A look at a map of the time shows the road to have a mix of terraced houses and trade (probably lock-up type) premises. With this information, I am still of the opinion that the road is somewhere in the Ealing/Brentford/Kew area.

Houses possibly further up the road. A distinctive zig-zag brick feature down side of ‘white’ house is visible.

More houses, possibly further up the road, this time with ’straight’ woodwork on front under eaves.

More houses possibly further up the road, same style of woodwork under eaves, and distinctive zig-zag brickwork down side of house.

More houses with same style of woodwork under eaves, and the distinctive brickwork (zig-zag) down side of house clearer.
