Bindle (One of Them Days)

Bindle walks through a market toward the bric-à-brac stall run by his pal Jack. Looking north on Pope's Road in Brixton SE5.

Having assisted two American Tourists to part with more money than they wanted to at Jack's stall, Joseph Bindle (Alfie Bass) makes his way to find his mate Ginger at their local. The Wickwood Tavern on Flaxman Road closed in August 2000.

A Postman crosses the road outside the house where Bindle lives. With the assistance of Tony Mc who recognised Barton House in the background, this is looking north on Elmsleigh Road in Wandsworth SW18.

The road is no more and Trinity Way now occupies the site. (PW)

Deciding that this is going to be "One of them days", Bindle leaves the pub and goes home, letting himself into the empty house. Facing numbers 21 to 27 Elmsleigh Road in Wandsworth found with help from Tony Mc.

Falling asleep after talking to a photograph of his wife Liz, Bindle dreams of the time that Mr. Stokes (John Tate) gave him the job of moving furniture for Mr. and Mrs. Fawcett.

With explicit orders not to mess up, Bindle climbs onto the pantechnicon with his Ginger (Johnny Wade).

Mr. Fawcett (Ivor Dean) and his Wife meet the van as it arrives outside their flat. South Lodge, adjacent to Bishops Close on Ham Common in Richmond, Greater London.

Unaware that Mrs. Fawcett had been shut inside the pantechnicon before they departed, Bindle and Ginger stop off for refreshment on the journey. The Black Swan public house at the junction of Old Lane and Ockham Lane at Martyr?s Green near Ockham in Surrey.

While the two men are inside the pub, a naughty Boy (Jeffrey Chandler) uses the whip he found stowed on the van, causing the horses to start away. The Black Swan can also be seen in 'On the Fiddle', 'Inn for Trouble' and 'Solo for Sparrow'.

When they come out of the pub, Bindle and Ginger are told by the Boy which way the van has gone. Looking south-east along Old Lane from the junction with Ockham Lane at Martyr?s Green.

Bindle returns home to face Mrs. Bindle before sending Ginger on to the yard to report the loss of the pantechnicon and its load.

On his way, Ginger wonders what he's going to say to Mr. Stokes. To the right is the railway bridge over Gordon Grove in SE5.

Ginger arrives back at the yard determined to use tact and diplomacy.

Expecting a problem, Mr. Stokes can't believe that Bindle has lost a "hacking great pantechnicon".

Mr. Fawcett enters at the yard demanding to know why his Wife was packed into the furniture van and where has she been taken to.

Leaving Mr. Hearty's flat after declining the offer of a job in his shop, Bindle finds the pantechnicon outside his house. Facing north on Elmsleigh Road in Wandsworth.
