Young Dinah (Phoebe Jones) runs towards Young Doreen (Hana Stewart) as she leaves the orphanage where she has lived for the last five years. The Holy Child Language School, formerly the College of the Holy Child, on Magdalen Road, St. Leonards-on-Sea.

When Dinah asks where are they going, Doreen keeps her in suspense. In use as a summer school since 1976, this is the Holy Child Language School on Magdalen Road.

After travelling along the promenade, the coach pulls up in Brighton. The Alpha Café, outside St. Leonards Warrior Square station on St. Johns Road in St. Leonards-on-Sea.

On the seafront, Derek and Dave (Christopher Sparkes) chat up Doreen and Dinah after the girls ask for a light. The shelter on Eversfield Place, above Bottle Alley in St. Leonards-on-Sea.

The pair smoke cigarettes as they eye up the lads outside a bar before Derek and Dave turn up. The paint scheme suggests the Holy Child Language School at St. Leonards-on-Sea.

Forty years later, Derek (Larry Lamb) spars with the air after getings out of his car in Brighton. Facing eastward on St. Johns Road in St. Leonards-on-Sea.

Putting his arm around his wife Dinah (Marion Bailey) as she gets out of the Rover, the two make their way to a boozer they remember. St. Johns Road with The Royal public house as the background.

Derek and Dinah make their way to the seafront where they join Doreen and her husband Dave. The pool area behind the old Convent School at the Holy Child Language School on Magdalen Road, St. Leonards-on-Sea.

After trouble getting the order from her husband and friends, Dinah goes off in search of burgers. The passageway linking London Road with Kings Road in St. Leonards.

While his wife is away, Derek comments to Dave that "They haven't half let this f***ing place go to pot." The ruins of Brighton's West Pier.

Razed by fire 2003, consumed by the sea ever since and captured by Neil Webster in 2024.

Fifty years earlier, Doreen looks out to sea with a tear in her eye. The wider groyne crossing the beach from opposite the corner of Grand Parade and Warrior Square.

Dinah continues her mission to find food. Facing south on Kings Road, St. Leonards-on-Sea in the Borough of Hastings.

Spotting two Girls eating from polystyrene trays, Dinah asks them where the nearest takeaway is. Looking north from outside number 10 Kings Road with St. Leonards Warrior Square station in the left distance.

Back in 1960s Brighton, romance blossoms and the two couples walk along the promenade. Eversfield Place above Bottle Alley in St. Leonards-on-Sea.

As they approach the camera, Derek, Dinah, Doreen (Lesley Sharp) and Dave (Phil Davis) arrive in the 2005. Eversfield Place in St. Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex.

A panning shot takes the viewer back to the 60s. Looking from West Hill in Hastings, past rooftops on Exmouth Place towards the beach with Hastings Contemporary and The Stade to the left.

Moving right brings Hastings Lifeboat Station into view to the centre.

A Teddy Boy waits outside a gentleman's convenience while his mates beat Derek up inside. At the Magdalen Road entrance to the Holy Child Language School, St. Leonards-on-Sea.

Leaving the toilet, Derek wipes blood from his nose. Inside the entrance to the former College of the Holy Child on Magdalen Road in St. Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex.

To Doreen's distaste, her companions continue to insult their fellow day-trippers with racist and bigoted comments. The pool at the former Convent School at the Holy Child Language School on Magdalen Road.

Leaving the women, along with their empty beer cans, Dave and Derek head to the seafront.

Dinah and Doreen set out to find the dolphins that they remember. Looking southward on Warrior Square, St. Leonards-on-Sea.

Coming to a halt, the pair look across the road. Facing numbers 92 and 90 Warrior Square.

The dolphin's home has been replaced by flats. Friston House at the corner of Warrior Square and Terrace Road.

Saying that she's suffering from a headache, Doreen sets off to find a chemist leaving Dinah to hoist herself onto a wall before lighting a cigarette. The corner of Warrior Square and Warrior Gardens in St. Leonards-on-Sea.

Rather than a chemists shop, Doreen makes her way to a church. The Grade II* listed Chapel at the Holy Child Language School in St. Leonards, previously St. Michael's church.

On the beach, Doreen stands with her thoughts as she looks out to sea. Facing inland from the beach at St. Leonards with Grand Parade to the left and Warrior Square to the right.

Making her way to the end of the groyne, Doreen speaks with Alice (Adjoa Andoh) who is also deep in thought. This is the wider groyne leading from the corner of Grand Parade and Warrior Square.

Alice recounts a time forty years ago, when she was flying her kite on the beach. Looking inland from the beach opposite Warrior Square.

Nearby, Doreen and her Dad feed the pigeons before he hears the Girl scream as she tries to retrieve her kite from the sea. The beach opposite Warrior Square in St. Leonards with the end of Hastings Pier to the extreme left.

After Doreen's Dad jumps into the sea to rescue the Girl, we're brought back to the 21st century. The beach at St. Leonards with the legs of Hastings Pier crossing the background.

Dave and Derek confront Ted (Freddie Gaminara) and Tom (Lucio Veronesi) who have tidied up the beer cans and taken the deckchairs that the two Teddy Boys were sitting in. At the rear of the former Convent School, now part of the Holy Child Language School in St. Leonards-on-Sea.

At the guest house where Alice is staying, Doreen realises that her Dad was a hero as the two women learn more about each other. Facing south-west on Wellington Road in Hastings.

Dinah is shocked when she finds Doreen speaking with Alice, who her Father saved from drowning fifty years ago to the day.
