‘He Who Rides a Tiger’ – Background Information

Some interesting background information, reported in the press at the time, came to light when researching this film:

A new film is being finished at Goldhawk Film Studios in Shepherds Bush.
Originally, the film was called “He who rides a Tiger” starring Tom Bell, Paul Rogers and Judi Dench. But filming had to stop suddenly last November when the film company ran into financial difficulties. For a while nothing happened. But because a great of money was already invested, several film financiers decided to put up the money to get production going again. The company hired Goldhawk Studios and filming has been restarted.

So the major feature film staged in Chelsea’s Elm Park Gardens was not held up by the pneumatic drill after all. Associate producer Roy Simpson said that the new British Lion film “He Who Rides a Tiger” – “A Taste of Honey” type drama – looked as though it would be delayed by a London Electricity Board gang who were digging up the road outside 23 and 25 Elm Park Gardens. The foreman of the gang agreed to drill for an hour and dig for an hour, giving the film people a chance to carry on screen tests inside the houses. Neither the L.E.B’s cable laying, nor the film was delayed Mr. Simpson agreed that the co-operation was satisfactory. The two houses, which are down for demolition, have been leased for ten weeks by British Lion. One house is being used as a studio and the other for administration.
