Endless Game

Carrying his coat and a hold-all, Jock Miller (George Segal) walks through council garages.

Heading for his car, the American crosses the concrete where a group of Boys are playing cricket.

While placing the hold-all in the back of the Ford Sierra, Miller looks back at the Lads when their ball hits him.

Miller drives to the Fernwalk Nursing Home where burnt out spy Caroline Oates is a patient.

Inside the home Miller administers a fast acting toxin to Caroline and takes a photograph from her bedside table.

Called away from a wine tasting, Alec Hillsden (Albert Finney) drives Sir Charles Belfrage (John Standing) to meet with Bayldon the Home Secretary after calling in at the morgue where Caroline had been taken. Pyrford Court on Pyrford Common Road, Pyrford in Surrey. The house can also be seen in 'Tales from the Crypt', 'Sky Pirates', 'The Mind of Mr. Soames' and 'The Cat and the Canary'.

Reassuming his cover as a wine merchant, MI6 officer Hillsden returns home to his wife Margot late at night.

Finding Margot asleep, Alec recalls an earlier time spent with his lover Caroline. Schloss Anif, Anif Castle, on Schlossallee, Anif in southern Salzburg, Austria. The location also features in 'The Sound of Music', 'The Great Race', 'The Odessa File' and 'The Slipper and the Rose'.

Miller leaves the Prostitute's flat after murdering her.

As Alec speaks with the Matron of the Fernwalk Nursing Home, Miller arrives in Salzburg after leaving the country aboard an Austrian Airlines flight. The exit from the car park at Salzburg Airport located by Manuel Gurtner who adds that while the two exhaust stacks in the background are still there, the control tower has since been replaced by a higher one.

In a rented 1987 BMW 7, Miller drives through Austria. Manuel Gurtner found the A10 motorway as it runs between Villach and Salzburg at the exit to a so-called Raststation, which is located near the north portal of the 6546m long Tauerntunnel and adds while the two exhaust stacks in the background are still there, the control tower has since been replaced by a higher one.

Miller leaves a restaurant after taking a break at a service area. Rasthaus Tauernalm, on Flachauwinklstraße below the Tauernautobahn to the south of Flachau in the Austrian state of Salzburg.

As he returns to his car, Miller is stopped by a Blonde Man (Mark Greenstreet) who gets into the passenger seat. Since demolished, Rasthaus Tauernalm has been replaced by Landzeit Tauernalm a few hundred meters away on the A10 as it runs south from Salzburg to the state of Kärnten (Carinthia).

The short motorcade, consisting a red Audi 80, Miller's silver BMW and a white VW Golf II, drives down Eishöhlenstraße, which Manuel Gurtner tells us is located high above and opposite to the market town of Werfen, Pongau region. In the background Hohenwerfen Castle can be recognized, best known as 'Schloss Adler', the main location in 'Where Eagles Dare' released in 1968.

Miller is directed to a large house.

The Blonde Man and his Associate (Robert Addie) search Miller before he is taken to meet their boss Hansel. Manuel Gurtner explains that here we are directly on the lake shore at the south end of the Attersee, in the Unterburgau hamlet of the municipality of St. Gilgen, Salzkammergut region.

Taking the photograph that Miller took from Caroline's bedside, Hansel (Sandor Elès) unfolds a British newspaper. The view from the large terrace of the 'Waldschlössl' mansion with its own jetty found by Manuel Gurtner. Opposite the bay on the upper left you can recognize the Burggrabenklamm as part of the Burggraben gorge, located in the north-eastern foothills of the famous Schafberg mountain.

The pair descend from the terrace after Hansel shows Miller the report of the Prostitute who was sadistically murdered in Soho.

After explaining that if they thought it necessary to kill him it would have been done in London, Hansel asks how he likes his steak and proposes that they eat outside.

Another memory sees Alec and Caroline spending time together during their affair. The grounds of Schloss Anif at Anif in Salzburg.

Alec drives to speak with a former colleague, the reclusive double agent Glanville. East Nene Lighthouse alongside the River Nene on East Bank Road to the north of Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire.

Following the death of Glanville, Alec leaves his old life behind when Control sends him to find out who is behind the murders.

The officer spends six months in prison after starting a fight in a pub.

Margot applies for a divorce and their house is put up for sale.

Completing his sentence, Alec walks free from HMP Lampton. The gateway of the Royal William Victualling Yard in Plymouth, Devon.

Alec is given accommodation and a job with the Brothers of Mercy hostel just outside Plymouth. Kitley House at Yealmpton in Devon.

Walking to the nearby shore, Alec finds a Woman sunbathing on the monastery's land . . . Silvia.

Having been recruited by Silvia, Alec is taken out of the country. Looking across the Great Western Docks in Plymouth towards West Hoe. Manuel Gurtner explains that the two are seen aft on the upper deck of the 'Quiberon', as Brittany Ferries' then flagship leaves port. Built in 1975 by the Nobisburg shipyard at Rendsburg, West Germany, and launched as 'Nils Dacke' by the Swedish shipping company Rederi AB Öresund to operate between Malmö, Sweden, and Travemünde, West Germany.

At the French port, Hansel's Men await the ferry's arrival after Silvia explains that she won't be going all the way with Alec. In Manuel Gurtner's opinion, this must be at a British port, as the moored vessel was under British flag at the time. We see the grab dredger hopper 'Sand Swallow III', built by Drypool Engineering & Dry Dock in 1966 and launched as 'Oyster Sand' by British Dredging.

The ferry reverses to dock.

With the Evening Standard carrying a headline about the missing MI6 officer being wanted in connection with Sir Charles's murder, Alec is moved to Moscow. County Hall on Belvedere Road in SE1.

Under Escort, Alec is taken to meet Victor Abramov for questioning. County Hall, Belvedere Road which is also seen in 'Eat the Rich'.

As the questions continue, Alec is moved from his cell to better quarters.

After Alec is reunited with Jock Miller, the pair are moved into an apartment in Moscow following the MI6 officers appearance on television.

Abramov arrives followed by a private ambulance after Miller severely injures one of the Call Girls supplied for his pleasure.

As Alec walks through the streets, Abramov (Derek de Lint) draws up beside him and tells him to that the Girl has died.

As he drives, Abramov explains that the circumstances of the Girl's death must be concealed before revealing the identity of Caroline's killer.

On a frozen river at New Year, people play ice hockey or entertain themselves in other ways. In the background stands the bridge to Seurasaari Island in western Helsinki, Finland.
