After a plot entirely acted out in the studio we reach the 1888 Derby. A pan shot starts with a drinking fountain and horse trough. There is a famous trough at Epsom Racecourse, but that bears the inscription Cicero, so this may be a prop.
John Harwood was just passing by and thought a photo of Cicero would indeed suggest a prop was used but this does look inspirational. (SJ)

The camera pans to the Downs Hotel, Epsom Downs, Surrey. Originally a building used to rub down horses, its original name The Rubbing House was restored in the 1960s. The building still stands today, reputably the only pub in the world sitting in the middle of a racecourse.

William develops tuberculosis and is treated in Royal Brompton Hospital. This building in Fulham Road SW3 was built in 1844, and also features in 'On the Run (1963)' and 'The Upturned Glass'. It was converted into gated apartments in 1997 under the name Rose Square.
Taken through the bars of this gated community, so the angle is restricted, but we can see that the spreading tree has continued to flourish. (SR)
