Recruits are lined up. David Trainer recognised Carlton Mews SW1 which was at the back of Carlton House Terrace, and reports that as a twelve year old he watched the filming. Carlton Mews also appears in 'Murder Without Crime', 'Count Five and Die', 'Fragment of Fear' and 'Bunny Lake is Missing'. It was demolished in September 1969 and the site was built over.

Captain Lewis Nolan (David Hemmings) flirts with Clarissa, the wife of his best friend. King John's Hunting Lodge, Odiham, Hampshire.

The bridge spans the Basingstoke Canal. Built c.1792 and extensively restored in 1980.

The recruits are trained in horsemanship. The Riding School at Beaumont Barracks, Auchinleck Way, Aldershot, Hampshire.

Beaumont Barracks were demolished in 1975 but this building survives, converted into offices and named Beaumont House.

When war is declared, the Hussars are called away to the Crimea where the ignominious charge takes place. The second half of the film is taken up by battlefield scenes shot in Turkey. Manual Gartner adds "The British Expeditionary Force's landing at the Kalamita Bay was also shot on the Black Sea coast, but not on the Crimean Peninsula, of course. In fact filming took place at the then military restricted area called Burç Plajı (Burç Beach), located west of Kilyos village, Sarıyer district on the European side of Istanbul Province. The extras were recruited from a nearby military base of the Turkish Armed Forces."
