I Like Birds

Freddie Horne (David Kernan) follows his fiancée Rosalie (Andrea Allen) from a trendy bar after she becomes annoyed by the number of Girls he knows. Mason's Yard off Duke Street in SW1.

Walking in silence, the couple get into his Triumph Spitfire. Mason's Yard also appears in 'Man of Violence' and 'Col cuore in gola'.

Reminded that they're visiting Rosalie's parents the following evening, Freddie accelerates away. Looking south-west on Mason's Yard in St. James's SW1.

Looking towards The Chequers Tavern, and incidentally taken outside no6 Mason's Yard (out of shot) of which basement housed the once Indica Gallery where John Lennon first met Yoko Ono. SJ

The next day, Freddie makes his way to the offices of Affiliated Magazines, a puritan women's magazine group where he has landed a new job as Assistant Editor. Birkett House at 27 Albemarle Street W1.

Mr. Lamphrey Gussett makes sure that Freddie catches the 1.30pm train to East Grinstead where he is to meet the group's chairman Miles Fanthorpe, who finds London too corrupt to visit. Meticulous research led Bob "the Whirl" to Barnes station on Station Road, Barnes SW13.

Alighting from the train, Freddie leaves the station. Facing the entrance to East Grinstead Low Level station on Railway Approach, East Grinstead in Sussex recognised by Jonathan Horswell.

Mr. Fanthorpe's Chauffeuse Janet (Monika Dietrich) calls Freddie over before opening the door of the DB5 for him. East Grinstead Low Level station found by Jonathan Horswell who adds that the canopies of the High Level station can be seen to the top right. The High Level platforms closed in 1967.

And panning right further for JH who adds that behind the line of trees and following up the yellow railing is the footbridge which is now all that is left of the original high level station. (SJ)

Explaining that Mr. Fanthorpe is giving a lecture at the Women's Institute, Janet drives Freddie from the station. To Bob "the Whirl" this appears to be the A22 Lewes Road south of Ashurst Wood in Sussex (51.105788, 0.024034).

Leaving Freddie to extract himself from the small back seat, Janet opens the door of the car for Mr. Fanthorpe to get out. The entrance to the Ravenswood Hotel to the south of East Grinstead at Sharpthorne found by Bob "the Whirl".

Taking their drinks along, Miles shows Freddie around the garden as Girls run towards a photo shoot for the 'Men Only' magazine. Bob "the Whirl" uncovered the Ravenswood Hotel, a 15th century Manor House on Cinder Hill at Sharpthorne in Sussex.

Gunella (Jill Field) takes pictures for the more lucrative publication as Miles explains that the puritan magazines are a front that he's kept secret for eight years. The grounds of the Ravenswood Hotel advises Bob "the Whirl".

As Rosalie enters the building to find out what's going on, Miles watches Freddie play tennis in the ground of his house. Bob "the Whirl" discovered grounds of the Ravenswood Hotel, since 2017 the Ravenswood, a wedding venue.

Freddie serves. Bob "the Whirl" identifies the grounds of the Ravenswood Hotel, now the Ravenswood, whose website tells us that by the 1960s the property was a casino and by the 1970s had become a hotel.

Having discovered that Freddie is working at Mr. Fanthorpe's house in Forest Row, Rosalie take the train to East Grinstead where she gets into a cab after calling her Father. East Grinstead Low Level station on Railway Approach in East Grinstead, Sussex identified by Jonathan Horswell.

With their silver wedding celebrations in ruin, Rosalie's Father tells his wife Ava (Mai Bacon) to make her way to the restaurant as he leaves for East Grinstead. Outside number 2 Robin Hood Way in Kingston Vale SW15.

Arriving at Miles's house, Rosalie peers through the windows before knocking the door. The Ravenswood Hotel on Cinder Hill at Sharpthorne in Sussex, located by Bob "the Whirl".

Rosalie's Father is driven at speed through the countryside in an attempt to save the evening. Horsted Lane at Sharpthorne, Sussex (51.060504, -0.038895) recognised by Bob "the Whirl".

Moving position to avoid a large tree that completely obscures the house, John Harwood stood in the middle of Horsted Lane.

The Silver Wraith passes the camera as it pans to follow. Bob "the Whirl" found Horsted Lane at Vaex End, Sharpthorne.

After Rosalie's Father, the Local Vicar and Members of the Women's Institute all converge on Mr. Fanthorpe's home, a convoy has everyone heading towards London. Bob "the Whirl" found the view from outside 16 Robin Hood Way looking along the A3 Kingston By Pass towards the junction where it meets Kingston Vale with Sherwood House to the left.

From across the busy A3, John Harwood spotted Sherwood House through the trees.

Getting steadily drunk, Rosalie's Mother sits in the restaurant on her own.

Freddie lands a new job at a different type of men's magazine. Was it the 'different type of men's magazine', the angle of the sun, the street lamp or what, that helped Dave W to establish the location as 39 Dover Street, W1? (RL)

The artisitic slant continues as it is now home to Gazelli Art House, sister to the same-named gallery in Baku. The street lamp looks posher and this view, looking west, is taken from the corner with Stafford Street. SJ

Walking arm in arm as they leave the building, Freddie takes Rosalie to lunch. The corner of Wigmore Street and Marylebone Lane in W1.

Given the utility cover's location, it looks as though the corner has been extended slightly. Looking north across Wigmore Street. SJ

The couple cross the road towards the Boulevard restaurant. Wigmore Street, opposite the southern section of Marylebone Lane. The building also features in 'The Long Good Friday'.
