Following a pre-title sequence in which Colonel Borensko questions John Smith, a taxi arrives outside a property in Belgravia. Facing the junction of Eaton Place and Chesham Street in SW1. The location also appears in 'The Invisible Asset' and 'The Crying Game'.

The shot pans with the taxi as it pulls away. Looking north-east on Eaton Place with the crossroads formed by Lyall Street to the right and Upper Belgrave Street in the distance.

A glorious spring day. SJ

A slightly elaborate journey takes a detour as this is facing south-east on Lyall Street SW1 with the entrance to Eaton Mews North right of centre.

The mews entrance can be spotted from the opposite direction in Escape Route. SJ

Continuity corrects itself as the taxi appears on Belgrave Square SW1 with number 24 at the junction with Belgrave Place and Chesham Place in the background.

No 24, Downshire House, the embassy of Spain, has been seen specifically in Edward My Son and The Lady with a Lamp. SJ

Panning right with the cab as it disappears from view. Belgrave Square with number 12 at the junction with West Halkin Street and Wilton Terrace in the right distance. Hardly pausing for a gap in the Sunday traffic, the cab joins vehicles heading east before delivering Mary at private investigator John Smith's flat. The junction of Marble Arch and Tyburn Way with the Cumberland Hotel at the corner of Great Cumberland Place and Oxford Street to the centre.

On Monday morning, Mrs. Roberts (Eleanor Summerfield) crosses the road on her way to work. Brewer Street W1 with Walker's Court in the centre background.

I spoke too soon, the van obscures the corner but since rebuilding there's not a lot of interest to see. PW

Following a threat to deport his girlfriend Mary, the former US spy drives to the country to start his training with Barker and Soviet defector Leo Tamir after agreeing to work for British Intelligence.

Posing as Canadian tractor engineer Harrison King on a trade mission, Smith arrives in Moscow to meet with Vladimir Karkov.

Following his interrogation after passing a cigarette lighter to Karkov in a bar, John Smith (Robert Horton) speaks with Colonel Borensko (Eric Pohlmann). Beyond the trees stands Heatherden Hall at Pinewood Studios in Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire.

After Smith is sentenced to 25 years in prison before telling the Colonel that he wants to become a double agent, Mary attends the rehearsal for a Moscow fashion show. Hassler Villa Medici Hotel on Piazza della Trinità dei Monti in Rome.

The aircraft reaches a derelict station. Haddenham station off Station Road in Haddenham. The GCR designed station on the south-western outskirts of Haddenham once had platform loops.

Smith is taken to his flat in London. Looking from Foley Street W1 towards the junction with Great Tichfield Street and Langham Street beyond. On the right, Langham Court, faced with black and white glazed bricks, was built in 1901 as a nurses' home and can also be seen in 'Telstar: The Joe Meek Story'.

Opening the door to his flat, Smith finds Barker waiting inside. Facing numbers 30 and 29 Foley Street where the rightmost corbel has since disappeared along with the numbering.

At least we still know where we are. PW

Smith returns to his Soho office, much to the surprise of Mrs. Roberts, before making contact with Tamir. Berwick Street W1.

The market is not even a shadow of its former glory. PW

A meeting with Tamir is arranged at White City dog track that evening. White City Stadium on Lime Grove in W12.

Smith tells Tamir that he knows he is working for Borensko. White City Stadium also features in 'Otley', 'Jumping for Joy', 'Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter', 'The Turners of Prospect Road' and 'The Blue Lamp'.

Returning to the closed railway station the next day, Smith waits for Tamir to arrive. The route through Haddenham remains open and a new station was provided to the north-west of the old one in 1987.
