We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. • 'Now' required

Dr Abernathy (Philip O'Brien) leaves the local pub and goes for some fresh air by the side of Loch Ness...where there might be something in the water. It's currently unclear where this was filmed, as it doesn't seem to match the real Loch Ness. One giveaway with some of the unidentified Loch shots is that there is seaweed visible!

  • 'Now' required

The busy shot of the road is the State Route 110 freeway in Los Angeles, California. It is crossed over by 4th Street, as we look in the South West direction.

  • 'Now' required

Dempsey (Ted Danson) breaks down on the freeway. This seems to be a different section of road from the previous shot, but currently the exact spot is unidentified.

  • 'Now' required

Car on tow, he pulls up outside an educational building. This frontage is currently unidentified but presumably in the Los Angeles area.

  • 'Now' required

Dempsey arrives in scotland and is met by Adrian Foote (James Frain). This is a currently unidentified airport.

  • 'Now' required

Adrian tells a tired Dempsey some historic myths as they drive near the shores of a currently unidentified loch.

  • 'Now' required

The body of water in the background is has been identified by site contributor Alan Bourke. He has correctly worked out that we are looking down on Loch Torridon in the Northwest Highlands, from near the Bealach na Gaoithe (mouth of the winds) viewpoint.

  • 'Now' required

Dempsey is standing outside his allotted hotel and is not keen. This location isn't actually in Scotland at all. This is the Coppid Beech Hotel in Southern England at John Nike Way, Bracknell in Berkshire RG12 8TF. This location was also used in the Rik Mayall comedy 'Bring me the Head of Mavis Davis'.

  • 'Now' required

Having sorted out a different sleeping arrangement, a tired Dempsey is amazed by the beautiful early morning shot of the loch. Although this is meant to be Loch Ness in the film, the real location is currently unspecified.

  • 'Now' required

He is then is berated by a grown up Laura (Joely Richardson) in his car outside the Moffat Arms pub. This is not actually on Loch Ness but in the tiny village of Diabaig in Highland, located about 83 miles away on the west coast of Scotland. The pub is also not really a pub.

  • 'Now' required

Reluctant fisherman express a skeptical view on the harbour-side of Loch Ness...except this is Diabaig. They are led by Andy Maclean (Nick Brimble).

  • 'Now' required

The boat for hire is moored up against the quay. In the story it's on Loch Ness, but in reality this is Diabaig.

  • 'Now' required

Dempsey and Adrian chat on the quayside at Loch Ness...except this is Diabaig.

  • 'Now' required

Dempsey puts his surfboard on the car roof rack with part of Diabaig village in the background.

  • 'Now' required

Laura's daughter Isbael (Kirsty Graham) makes first contact with Dempsey on the harbourside and informs him where he will be staying.

  • 'Now' required

An atmospheric wide misty shot of the village/hamlet...but this is not the real Loch Ness, but Diabaig.

  • 'Now' required

Shot of early morning village life on the shore (of Diabaig).

  • 'Now' required

Next morning Isabel is with her dog by the water. This is a little bit along the rocky beach from the village of Diabaig.

  • 'Now' required

Isabel prepares to throw a stick for her dog on the shore.

  • 'Now' required

Laura walking on the pathway at Diabaig.

  • 'Now' required

After a fishing boat encounter, Dempsey notices a castle. Again this is not actually on the shores of Loch Ness. This is Eilean Donan Castle at Dornie, Kyle of Lochalsh from which the deeply suspicious local Water Bailiff (Ian Holm) is watching. This is the same castle that was featured in 'Highlander' and the James Bond film 'The World is Not Enough'. It is a little over 50 miles away from the village used in the film and a little 40 miles away from the real Loch Ness.

  • 'Now' required

With new determination following a confrontation with the Water Bailiff, Dempsey and Adrian set out again the early morning

  • 'Now' required

The intrigued locals watching the American attempting to use his tech to unravel a guarded mystery.

  • 'Now' required

Dempsey and Adrian walking along the pathway in Diabaig, with Adrian trying to suggest new theories as to where Nessie may be hiding.

  • 'Now' required

Laura hears them from her garden. This is looking along the front of Diabaig village.

  • 'Now' required

The confrontation with Andy Maclean (Nick Brimble) resolved, the next morning an outside shot of the pub on a misty day.

Isabel wants to show Ted her 'friend' and so leads him back to the castle. This is another shot of the much used Eilean Donan Castle, which is some distance from the real location of Loch Ness.

Antony Blair took this wider view on a recent visit, which shows a little more of the beautiful landscape the castle is set in . . . with little, if any, change over the intervening 29 years.

  • 'Now' required

Within the castle, Isabel leads Dempsey down to an underground passage way. It's currently unclear if this inside shot is part of the same castle or filmed somewhere else.

  • 'Now' required

Photo evidence in hand, Dr Robert Mercer (Harris Yulin) is looking at them on the harbour-side at Diabaig.

  • 'Now' required

Dempsey chats with Isabel on the shore, with her being disapointed in whats happened and that he is leaving.

To London, for a press conference to unveil Dempsey's findings. Steve Randall points out that the BBC news van passes a view of The Grand Building from the south side of Trafalgar Square, London WC2. If the camera turned to the left you’d see Nelson’s Column.

Yes, standing west of the base of the column will give a view down Northumberland Avenue on the right. SJ

It then arrives outside the Natural History Museum in South Kensington, London SW7 5BD.

A view from outside the perimeter on Cromwell Road. SJ

  • 'Now' required

The bus ride back to scotland, the Water Bailiff discovers that Dempsey put his nessie photos in his satchel, not wanting to share his discovery after all. This road is currently unidentified.

  • 'Now' required

2nd shot of a currently unidentified Loch.

  • 'Now' required

The bus is now heading down the A832 along Glen Docherty, between Loch Maree and Kinlochewe to the west and Loch a'Chroisg and Achnasheen to the east.
